Mailbox Explodes

Police report that at about 10:30 pm August 4, someone inserted a firecracker or some type of explosive device into a residential mailbox on Huntingtown Road, after which the mailbox exploded into fragments.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 426-5841.

Toyota Vs Toyota

Police report that motorist Tait Chappell, 30, of West Brownfield, Maine, who was driving a Toyota Tundra pickup truck, stopped on southbound Main Street for a noncontact vehicle at about 8:12 am August 7.

Southbound motorist Uma Jhawar, 49, of Brookfield, who was driving a Toyota Corolla sedan, attempted to stop, but skidded into the rear end of the truck, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Jhawar an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

Intersection Crash

Police report an accident at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way about 5:14 am August 6.

Motorist Louis Mahmood, 67, of 3 Floral Heights, who was driving a 1996 Cadillac DeVille, was attempting to turn left from Wasserman Way onto Berkshire Road, while motorist Shawn Summers, 29, of Tarrytown, N.Y., was attempting to turn left from Berkshire Road onto Wasserman Way, police said. The vehicles collided in the intersection.

Mahmood reported feeling ill, but no hospital transport was made, police said. Police issued Mahmood an infraction for failure to obey a traffic signal.

Jeep Vs Lexus

About 9:48 am August 7, motorist Eugene Rosen, 63, of 22 Riverside Road, who was driving a 2003 Lexus ES-350 sedan, was attempting to make a right turn into his driveway at that address, when he was struck from behind by motorist Timothy Hoeffel, 22, of 12 Old Green Road, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Wrangler, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Rosen to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Police issued Hoeffel an infraction for following too closely.
