Garner Inmate Arrested

On Weapon Charge

State police report that an inmate at the state’s high-security Garner Correctional Institution at 50 Nunnawauk Road was found to be in possession of a homemade weapon, known as a “shank,” at the facility on the evening of August 5.

State police said inmate Hector Cruz, 27, was found to have a sharpened comb in his pants. Cruz was charged with possession of a weapon in a correctional institution. The charge is a felony. Cruz was scheduled for an August 7 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Cruz is an unsentenced prisoner who is being held on bail in Garner on a pending charge of first-degree sexual assault.
