Blumenthal: Report Gas Price Gouging
HARTFORD â Attorney General Richard Blumenthal announced this week that his office is monitoring Connecticut wholesale gasoline prices to guard against retail price gouging in the wake of the Alaska pipeline shutdown.
âMy office is checking state wholesale gasoline prices every day to assure that no retailer exploits the Alaska pipeline shutdown to profit,â Mr Blumenthal said. âConnecticut receives little to none of its oil from Alaska, so there is no excuse for any immediate retail price spike. We have seen no specific evidence of price gouging so far.
âI encourage citizens to report sudden, sizable price increases at the pump. If such evidence emerges, I will move swiftly and aggressively against any companies who gouge consumers â as we have done in eight cases so far, collecting almost $40,000,â he added.
Anyone with evidence of gasoline price gouging should report it to the Attorney Generalâs Consumer Protection Division at 860-808-5400.
