For Adults At Craft Center
BROOKFIELD â A new group exhibition entitled âPlaytime: Toys for Adultsâ will open in the Lynn Tendler Bignell Gallery at Brookfield Craft Center on August 20 and will run through October 8. The specially curated show has been created by Suzanne Ramljak of Bethel, who is the editor of Metalsmith magazine, a national publication for fine art jewelry makers and metalsmithing artists.
An opening reception will be held on Sunday, August 20, from 2 to 4 pm, with a special Curatorâs Talk at 3pm. Admission is free.
Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sundays from noon to 5 pm.
The concept of the show is play, which the curator believes is âa key component of every culture and a necessary part of our individual development.â Some theorists have even posited a âplay instinctâ that must find fulfillment in various forms.
The artists selected for this show have provided work that is intended to be played with by grown-ups. Whether wearable or freestanding, all of the objects on display invite interaction and help catalyze a sense of wonder and joy.
Artists with work in the new show are Sarah Doremus, Yael Friedman, Mark Hartung, Kristin Lora, Felieke van der Leest, Miel-Margarita Paredes, Barbara Walter, Tom and Kathy Wegman, and David and Roberta Williamson.
The Lynn Tendler Bignell Gallery is within Brookfield Craft Centerâs historic mill building on Route 25, just east of the four corners intersection with Route 7/202. For further information call the Center at 775-4526 or visit BrookfieldCraftCenter.org.
