Ukranian Festival Returns August 27

The annual Ukranian Festival hosted on the grounds of Paproski Tree Farm, at 5 Hattertown Road in Newtown, will return this year on Sunday, August 27. The farm is at the beginning of Hattertown Road, just off Route 302.

The event is sponsored by Holy Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukranian Catholic Church in Bridgeport.

It will begin at 11 am with an outdoor service of Divine Liturgy, celebrated by the Rev Stepan Yanovski, pastor of the parish. A choir will sing the Divine Liturgy, followed by the service. There will also be a short dedication service in recognition of ten years of Ukranian freedom from the former Soviet republic. All are invited to attend. The festival will then continue during the full afternoon.

Ukranian and American foods such as stuffed cabbage, borshch, pyroky, poppy seed pastry, nut rolls, and many other selections will be offered all afternoon. The day’s activities will include traditional Ukranian dancing and songs, hay rides, pony rides, volleyball, a petting zoo, and more.

There will be plenty of parking available. Bring chairs and blankets for seating. Suggested donation is $1, with children under age 10 admitted free.

For more information, contact Olga Paproski at 426-4017 or the church, 203/367-5054.
