Open House At German School Of CT
Open House At German School Of CT
WESTON â Finding the German School of Connecticut (GSC) is like uncovering a cultural treasure right in your backyard. For 20 years, GSC has been providing Saturday morning German instruction to children and adults. Nearly 250 students attend courses during each session of the non-profit, private schoolâs two sites (Weston and Hartford) to learn the German language and culture from a professional staff.
An open house and registration session is planned for Saturday, September 2, from 9:30 am to noon at Weston Middle School, 135 School Road. The first day of classes will be September 9.
Tuition is $495 for a full year of classes, or $250 for one semester. Tuition breaks are offered when two or more members of the same family attend classes. More information will be available during the open house.
GSC provides an informal atmosphere for novice or native speakers to use and improve their language skills. Following the academic calendar from September to May, GSC offers thirty sessions of planned instruction.
Classes are available to children from preschool age, kindergarten through high school, to adults, at the beginner, intermediate, or advanced levels. There are also separate classes for children for whom German is their first language. Often their parents are in the US only temporarily on a business assignment.
GSC is a good resource through which job and social opportunities can be realized. Both the businessperson investigating markets in a unified Germany as well as the casual enthusiast, exploring family roots for instance, will benefit from enrollment at the school.
Younger students learn in an environment that is playful, often hands-on, and challenging at the same time. Nursery, kindergarten, and grades one through 12 instruction is based on National Standards for Foreign Languages and is kept up to date.
Students not only advance in the linguistic aspects of Germany but are also introduced to the rich literary, musical, and everyday culture of the German-speaking countries. Students may take standardized tests that are of importance when applying for college.
