OBITS FOR 10/17/97

William T. Dacey

William T. Dacey, 72, the beloved grandfather of Kristian T. Dacey and Sarah

M. Dacey of Sandy Hook, died October 6 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was the husband

of Mary F. Kelley Dacey of University Heights, Cleveland.

He was born on May 10, 1925, in Milton, Mass. He was a retired insurance

adjuster for Alcoah-Alcan Aluminum.

Funeral services were held in Cleveland and in Milton. Burial was in Milton.

Victor Scott Fortini

Victor Scott Fortini, 35, a vice president of sales with Mistic Brands, died

October 12, at Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich.

A resident of Sandy Hook, Mr Fortini was the husband of Kelly Peters Fortini.

He was born in Greenwich, May 24, 1962, a son of Donald and Nancy Earl Fortini

of Ridgefield.

Mr Fortini was a graduate of Miami of Ohio University and was a member of the

Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He was also a member of the Rock Ridge Country

Club in Newtown.

Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by three sons, Hayden Thomas,

Taylor Scott, and Brian Anthony Fortini, all of Sandy Hook; two brothers,

Brian Fortini of San Diego, Calif, and Craig Fortini of Naples, Fla.; three

sisters, Linda Fortini of Stamford, Laura Fortini of Chapel Hill, N.C., and

Tracy Fortini of San Francisco, Calif.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Fortini Children's Trust, c/o

Riefberg, Smart, Donohue & Nejame, 17 Downs Street, Danbury 06810.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service was held October 15 at the First Presbyterian Church,

Stamford. Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

The Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St, Stamford, was in

charge of arrangements.

George Veach

George "Ike" Veach, 71, brother of Robert Veach of Newtown, died October 10 in

Danbury. He was a resident of Bethel.

Mr Veach was born in Norwalk on September 19, 1926, a son of George and

Harriet Veach.

He had worked for the Lloyd Roles Company and the Danbury and Brewster Company

before his retirement.

Mr Veach is survived by two other brothers, Ralph Veach of Danbury and Ernest

Veach of Bethel; five sisters, Sue Sayers and Helen Mills, both of Bethel,

Virginia Conklin of Danbury, Harriet Hickock of Southbury and Mary Thompkins

of Brewster.

Services were held October 14 at the Hoyt Funeral Home, New Canaan. Burial was

in Beck Hill Cemetery, Vista, N.Y.

Gladys B. Shockley

Gladys Beeson Shockley, 89, mother of Shirley Lawrenson of Newtown, died

September 24 at Westview Care Center in Sun City, Arizona.

Mrs Shockley was born in Garfield County, Oklahoma, on January 27, 1908. She

was a homemaker but worked for the US Bureau of the Census during both the

1930 and 1950 census periods. Later she worked for several years as a cashier

in the Portland, Oregon Army and Air Force Base Exchange.

She moved from Oregon to Arizona in 1986 and was a member of the First

Christian Church of Sun City. She celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary

August 28, 1997.

Besides her daughter, Mrs Shockley is survived by her husband, Dell, of Sun

City, Arizona; two grandsons, Kenneth Lawrenson of Aloha, Oregon, and David

Lawrenson of Olympia, Washington; and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a twin daughter, Sherry Garwood of Salem, Oregon.

Memorial services were held in both Sun City, Arizona, and Portland, Oregon.

George A. Lake

George A. Lake, 36, brother of Doreen Shevlin of Newtown, died October 11 in

Elliot Hospital, Manchester, N.H.

He was the husband of Liz Smith-Lake of Raymond, N.H.

The son of Dolores Lake of Stratford and the late George Lake, he was a native

of Trumbull. He graduated from St Joseph's High School in Trumbull and Johnson

and Wales College in Providence, R.I.

Mr Lake also is survived by a brother, Chris Lake of Stratford; a

brother-in-law, Pat Shevlin of Newtown, and a sister and brother-in-law,

Melissa and Jim Winfield of Stratford.

Services were held at his home in Raymond, N.H., on October 13.

Nora McInerney

Nora McInerney of Bridgeport, mother of Joanne Stange of Newtown, died October

14 in St Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport with her family at her side.

Mrs McInerney was born in Meelin, County Cork, Ireland. She came to the United

States in 1948, and was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport.

She was a communicant of St Augustine Cathedral Parish for the past 39 years.

Together with her husband, Thomas, she was a founding member of the

Gaelic-American Club, and remained an active member throughout her life. She

was also a member of the New Haven Gaelic Football and Hurling Club.

Besides her husband, daughter and son-in-law Mark Stange, she is survived by

her other children, Thomas Jr and his wife, Louise, of Derby, Michael and his

wife, Cathleen, of Prospect, and Daniel and his wife, Daureen, of Trumbull;

four grandchildren, Karen, Marissa, Kevin and Daniel William II. She is also

survived by her brother, John D. McCarthy of County Cork, Ireland; two

sisters, Joan Yuknek of Sandy Hook, and Margaret Conlan of Bridgeport; and

several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Friday, October 17, from 3 to 8 pm, and are invited to

attend the funeral on Saturday, October 18, at 9:15 am, from the Larson

Funeral Home, 2496 North Avenue, Bridgeport, and at 10 am in St Augustine

Cathedral for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven

Cemetery, Trumbull.

Elizabeth L. LeClair

Elizabeth L. LeClair, 56, mother of Linda Fuller of Newtown, died October 14

at Danbury Hospital.

Mrs LeClair, of Purchase Brook Road, Southbury, was the wife of Lawrence

LeClair.

She was born in New Fairfield on January 22, 1941, a daughter of Basil and

Dorothy Ahrlich Bartram.

For 15 years, Mrs LeClair was a nurse's aide at New Milford Hospital. She

later worked in nursing homes in the Danbury area for many years.

Besides her husband and daughter, Mrs LeClair is survived by four brothers,

Basil Bartram Jr of New Milford, Waldo Bartram of Versailles, Ohio, David

Bartram of Ansonia, Conn., and William Bartram of Miami, Fla.; three sisters,

Dorothy Stock of Danbury, Sharon Bartram of Miami, Fla., and Nona Talarico of

Schroon Lake, N.Y.; and two grandsons, David Phillips and Peter Fuller, both

of Newtown.

Calling hours are Thursday, October 16, from 6 to 9 pm at the Honan Funeral

Home, 58 Main St, Newtown.

Services will be on Friday, October 17, at 11 am, at the Honan Funeral Home

with the Rev Steven Gordon officiating. Burial will take place in Zoar

Cemetery.
