Jay A. McNally

Jay A. McNally, 55, formerly of Newtown, died July 3 at Connecticut Hospice,

Branford.

Mr McNally was the husband of Malinda E. (Loughlin) McNally and resided at

1000 North Main Street, Waterbury. He was a driver for the Yellow Cab Co in

Waterbury.

Mr McNally was born in Norwalk, Conn., March 14, 1943, the son of Johnnie A.

and Irma (Sefick) McNally of N. Chatham, Mass.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Shawn McNally,

of South Dakota; four daughters, Sharon Reidy of New Bedford, Mass., Sherrie

Miller and Sheila Roberto of Newtown, and Suzanne Soterion of West Point,

N.Y.; two stepdaughters, Dianne and Michelle; a sister, Becky Borelli of

Florida, a niece, nephew, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was

predeceased by a son, Mickey McNally, in 1990.

A memorial service was July 8 at the Newtown Congregational Church.

Ruth E. Collins

Ruth E. Collins, 90, of 6 Juniper Road, Newtown, died July 3 at the home of

her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Robert Hains of Danbury.

She was the wife of the late J. Gilbert Collins. Mrs Collins was born in

Pleasantville, N.Y., on September 15, 1907, the daughter of Odie and Lizzie

(Young) Walker.

A graduate of Russell Sage College, Mrs Collins taught physical education in

Chappaqua, N.Y., and Danbury. After retirement, she was a volunteer for Meals

on Wheels, served as secretary for the Newtown Ambulance Association, was a

member of the Newtown Garden Club and Ridgewood Country Club, and at the time

of her death was an active member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary Committee.

Besides her daughter, she is survived by two grandchildren, Tyler Hains of

Spring Lake, N.C., and Tracy Hains of Newtown and two great-granddaughters,

Taylor and Jordan Hains.

Memorial contributions may be made to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut,

30 West Street, Danbury, or Newtown Ambulance Association, Box 344, Newtown.

Funeral Services were July 7 in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street,

Newtown, with the Rev Mark Horton officiating. Burial will be in Newtown

Village Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Emma A. Lindblom

Emma A. Lindblom, 76, died July 5 in Ashlar of Newtown.

Mrs Lindblom was the wife of the late Edward A. Lindblom and resided at 578

Danbury Road, Wilton, for several years. She was born in New Canaan, Conn.,

September 1, 1921, the daughter of the late Charles and Elsie (Moore) Allison.

Mrs Lindblom was retired from Perkin-Elmer in Wilton, where she was an

assembler. She was a former member of the United Methodist Church in

Georgetown, Conn.

Mrs Lindblom is survived by two sons, Edward Lindblom of New Milford and

Davide E. Lindblom of Newtown; two daughters, Linda Heller and Judith DePalmer

both of West Pawlet, Vt.; two sisters, Dorothy Williams of South Carolina, and

Grace Beske of New Mexico; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown,

Thursday, July 9, at 7 pm.

Cremation will be in Mountain Grove Crematory, Bridgeport.

Mary J. Cummings

Mary J. (Mason) Cummings, 70, mother of Donna Cummings Robinson of Newtown,

died July 7 at Waterbury Hospital.

She was the widow of William Cummings, Sr. Mrs Cummings was born June 10, 1928

in Norwalk, the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Katherine (Gilchrist)

Mason.

Prior to moving to Southbury in 1977, she and her husband owned and operated

William Cummings Plumbing and Heating in Norwalk for several years.

Besides her daughter, she is survived by a son, William Cummings, Jr, of

Southbury; a brother, Edward Mason of Fairfield; two grandsons, Mason and Dana

Robinson, of Newtown; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be Friday, July 10, at 10 am at Sacred Heart Church, Main

Street South, Southbury. Burial will be private in Riverside Cemetery,

Norwalk.

Calling hours will be Thursday, July 9, 7 to 9 pm in the daily chapel of the

church. Arrangements are by Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South,

Southbury.

Milton Chernoff

Milton Chernoff, 89, of Woodbury, formerly of Newtown and Bridgeport, died

July 5 in Waterbury Hospital.

He was the husband of Ann Busker Chernoff of Woodbury. He was born in

Bridgeport, the son of the late Louis and Dora Chernoff.

Mr Chernoff was a 60 year Mason, and operated the former Ann & Milts service

station in Newtown for more than 30 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Robert Chernoff, of Southbury; four

grandchildren, Mark, Lisa, David and Deborah; a great granddaughter, Keri; a

niece and a nephew.

Services were held July 7 at the Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home,

Fairfield with interment following at the Hebrew Sick Benefit Association

Cemetery in Fairfield.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Disease Foundation.

Paul Lukienchuk

Paul Lukienchuk, 76, of Newtown, died July 2 in Danbury Hospital.

He was the husband of Cecelia (Wisinski) Lukienchuk. He was born in Bridgeport

on March 8, 1922. He was a Newtown resident since 1965.

Mr Lukienchuk was a retired designer for Dresser Industries in Bridgeport.

During World War II he served with the US Navy Seebees.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Paul Lukienchuk III, of Newtown; a

daughter, Susan L. Lukienchuk, of Newtown; a sister, Sally Lucas, of New York

City; and one granddaughter, Erin Lukienchuk, of Manchester, Conn.

Funeral services were held July 6 at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street,

Newtown. Interment in Newtown Village Cemetery.

Alan Engelman

Alan Engelman, 52, former Newtown resident and owner of Black Mesa Craft Shop,

Woodbury, died July 3 at his home in Southbury.

Mr Engelman was born in Bridgeport, May 4, 1946, the son of the late Julian W.

and Beaulah (Wittstein) Engelman.

He was a 1969 graduate of Hartwick College, Oneonta, N.Y. He was a previous

owner of Carol Shoes in Trumbull Shopping Park.

A Southbury resident the past 10 years, Mr Engelman was a former Newtown

resident and a past member of the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the

Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire Co. He was also a member of the Woodbury Business

Association.

He is survived by his daughter, Katherine E. Engelman, of Newtown; a brother,

Jerrold W. Engleman, of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Carol Louise Engelman, of

Bridgeport; his former wife, Barbara (March) Engelman, of Newtown; and his

fiancee, Debbie A. Miles, of Woodbury.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation at Mountain Grove

Crematory.

The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown was in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Rothwell

Dr Kenneth G. Rothwell, father of Cristina Korchman of Newtown, died July 6 in

St Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport of acute leukemia.

He was the husband of Ann C. Rothwell of Easton. Born in Lancashire, England,

Dr Rothwell was a graduate of both Oxford University and Cambridge University,

and obtained his medical degree at Saint Mary's Hospital in London. He was a

practicing physician in England until 1965, when he emigrated to the United

States and entered into a career in pharmaceutical research.

Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by four other children,

Catherine Ingwersen of Vergennes, Vt., Timothy Rothwell of Stockton, N.J.,

Nicholas Rothwell and Patricia Hooper, both of Somerset, N.J.; and 11

grandchildren.

A Memorial Service was held July 9, at Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church,

Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Dr Rothwell may be given to the

Organ Fund at Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church, 4670 Congress Street,

Fairfield, Conn. 06430.

Richard O. Denton

Richard O. Denton Sr, 68, a former partner in Drywall Associates of Newtown,

died July 5, in his home in Shelton after a brief illness.

He was the husband of Evelyn Lubik Denton of Maple Lane Ext, Shelton. Mr

Denton was born in Bridgeport, August 11, 1929, the son of the late Stanley

and Hazel Beman Denton; he was a resident of Huntington for more than 44

years.

Mr Denton retired from Drywall Associates of Newtown in 1992 after 13 years of

service.

Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, Richard Denton, Jr, Robert

Denton, and Roger Denton, all of Huntington; a brother, Stanley Denton, of

Port Charlotte, Fla.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He

was predeceased by a brother, Harold.

A graveside service will take place in Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the

family.

The Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton is in charge of

arrangements.
