Small Attic Fire Stopped Quickly

A malfunctioning attic ventilation fan caused a fire in a home at 65 Aunt Park

Lane Monday afternoon, resulting in an estimated $2,000 of property damage,

according to Fire Marshal George Lockwood. There were no injuries.

Passerby Ed Pilloise, who lives in the area, spotted smoke and flames coming

from atop the house and called in the fire alarm at about 5 pm, Mr Lockwood

said. Dodgingtown, Botsford, and Hook and Ladder firefighters responded to the

call, staging several fire trucks at nearby Hattertown Green. Dodgingtown and

Botsford sent trucks to the fire scene.

An attic fan had seized up after experiencing a short circuit and then

ignited, causing the roof, carrying beams, and building insulation to catch

fire, Mr Lockwood said.

Had the fire remained undetected for any length of time, the occupied Concilio

residence could have completely caught fire, according to the fire marshal.

Firefighters remained at the scene for about 90 minutes.
