Louis J. Verzaro

Louis J. Verzaro, 71, of 86 Mayweed Road, Fairfield, beloved husband of

Celeste (Sally) Minalgo Verzaro, died December 7, at his home after a long

illness. He was the father of John Minalgo of Newtown.

Mr Verzaro was born in Fairfield, January 25, 1927, the son of the late James

and Jenny (Csogi) Verzaro. He was a machinist for 48 years at Harvey Hubbell,

retiring in 1991. He served in the US Army in World War II. He was a member of

The Church of the Resurrection, Ansonia; Mason's Fidelity-St. John's Lodge No.

3 A.F. & A.M.; American Legion-George Alfred Smith Post; and VFW Post #1672.

A retired musician, he was a former member of the Bridgeport Musician's

Association Local 63-549, and a counselor for the Fairfield Townies Recreation

Center for several years.

Besides his wife and son, he is survived by another son, Stephen Minalgo of

Ohio; one brother, James Verzaro of California; seven grandchildren; two

aunts; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral will be held December 12 at 9:15 am from the Hylwa-Wakelee

Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. The funeral service is in

The Church of the Resurrection, Ansonia, at 10 am. Burial will be in Pine

Grove Cemetery, Ansonia.

Friends may call December 11 from 4 to 8 pm.

Amelia P. Haase

Amelia "Amy" P. Haase, who lived all her life in Newtown, died at home on

December 5. She was the wife of Harold Haase.

Mrs Haase was born in New York City, daughter of the late Duncan and Bertha

Popovitch. She attended Newtown Public Schools and graduated from Newtown High

School in 1939, which then was in the Hawley School. She worked in the post

office during World War II when it was still located in Edmond Town Hall. She

began work as a teller in 1952 in the Connecticut National Bank and later

joined Newtown Savings Bank on Main Street, Newtown, where she remained until

1961.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Benson Haase, of Cape May, N.J.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Popovitch.

There will be no calling hours or funeral. The family plans to have a memorial

gathering at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Regional Hospice of Western

Connecticut, 30 West Street, Danbury, Ct. 06810.

Hull Funeral Service, 60 Division Street, Danbury, is handling arrangements.

Margaret Turner

Margaret Wade Turner, 73, of 20 Mead Ridge Road, Ridgefield, mother of Neale

Turner of Newtown, died at her home on December 8, after a brief illness. She

was the wife of the late Neale E. Turner, Sr.

Mrs Turner was born in Tomahawk, Wis., August 5, 1925, a daughter of the late

Sherman and Bess (Stone) Wade.

A resident of Ridgefield since 1961, Mrs Turner was an executive assistant at

the Perkin-Elmer Corporation, retiring in 1990 after 23 years of employment.

At the time of her death, Mrs Turner was still employed on a part-time basis

at Perkin-Elmer and the Silicon Valley Group companies.

After retirement, Mrs Turner enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren,

traveling, bridge, and other activities with her close circle of friends.

She was a graduate of Norwalk Community College.

Mrs Turner was a member and past president of the Perkin-Elmer Retirement Club

and a volunteer for the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, the

Mid-Fairfield County Hospice, and the Ridgefield Library.

She was a member of St Mary's Church, Ridgefield.

She is survived by three other sons, Kevin Turner of Los Gatos, Calif., Wade

J. Turner of Redding, and Timothy J. Turner of Shelton; a daughter, Thea

Turner of Evanston, Ill.; three brothers, William Wade of Antigo, Wis.,

Sherman Wade of Atlanta, Ga., and Steven Wade of Portland, Ore.; a sister,

Camille Maurice of Wausaukee, Wis.; and six grandchildren, Jason Turner-Maier,

Brandon Earl Turner, Kyle Turner, Devin Turner, Michaela Turner and Aria

Turner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on December 11 at 10:30 am in St

Mary's Church, Ridgefield.

Interment will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery, Antigo, Wis.

Calling hours were scheduled at the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah Street,

Ridgefield, on December 10, from 5 to 8 pm.

Memorials in Mrs Turner's memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse

Association, 90 East Ridge, Ridgefield, Ct. 06877 or to the Mid-Fairfield

County Hospice, P.O. Box 818, Norwalk, Conn.

Beverly Kirschbaum

Beverly L. Kirschbaum, 31, wife of Daniel L. Kirschbaum of St Petersburg,

Fla., died December 2, at her home.

Mrs Kirschbaum was born in Bridgeport September 13, 1967, a daughter of Mary

(Blankenship) Faroni of St Petersburg. She was raised in Bridgeport and

Trumbull and was a graduate of Trumbull High School. She had been a resident

of St Petersburg since 1989 and was a member of the St Petersburg Baptist

Church.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by a son, Cody Allen

Keim, and a daughter, Chrystal Leigh Ferrenti, both of St Petersburg; a

sister, Angela M. Lahr of Stratford; and several aunts, uncles, nieces,

nephews and cousins, including many family members in the Newtown area.

Funeral services were held December 9, in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main

Street, Newtown. Interment was in Resurrection Cemetery.

Francis J. Kilbride

Francis J. Kilbride, 70, of Naugatuck, formerly of Sandy Hook, and Shamokin,

Pa., died December 6, in Waterbury. He was the brother of Rosemary Cavanaugh

of Newtown.

He was born in Danbury, May 17, 1928, son of Yvonne (Thibault) Kilbride of

Newtown and the late Francis Kilbride.

He was a graduate of St Mary's High School in New Haven, and attended

Providence College and Fairfield University. He was last employed by Burns

Security Service and formerly was an insurance agent and home builder. During

the Korean War, he served in the 8th Army Honor Guard and was the recipient of

three Bronze Service Stars.

He is survived, besides his mother and sister, by six sons, Kevin and Shawn of

Hinesburg, Vt., Kieran and Francis of Vergennes, Vt., Christopher of Perkasie,

Pa., and Timothy of State College, Pa.; four daughters, Tara Dandrea of

Pittsburgh, Pa., Lisa Lufkin of Tremont, N.H., Jacqueline Baldwin of Andover,

Ohio, and Kerry Troutman of Shamokin, Pa.; and 11 grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Catherine Stack.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated December 12, at 11:30

am in St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown. Burial will be in St Rose Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

John H. Reck

John H. Reck, 76, of Fairfield, father of Holly R. Shanley of Newtown, died

December 5, in his residence. Mr Reck was born in Bridgeport, and was a

lifelong area resident.

He was a retired partner in the former Brooklawn Conservatory. He was a former

writer for the Connecticut Post, and a former editor of the Weekly Underwriter

Magazine. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a member of the

Knights of Columbus.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sally Grimes Reck, and a son, Jeffrey John

Reck. Survivors include one son, Bruce M. Reck of Fairfield; two other

daughters, Robin E. and Pamela A. Reck, both of Fairfield; two brothers,

Robert Reck of Fairfield and Stephen Reck of Monroe; two sisters, Joan Hannan

of Stratford and Helen Clair Kay of Stratford; three grandchildren, Jennifer

Shanley, Chad Michael Reck, and Christopher Reck; one great-grandson, Cody

Reck; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held on December 9 at the Assumption Church, Fairfield, for a

Mass of Christian Burial. Interment was in St Michael's Cemetery, Stratford.

Donations may be made to the United Home Hospice, 1951 Black Rock Turnpike,

Fairfield, CT 06430.

Edward F. Orzech

Edward Francis Orzech, 79, of 9 Castle Hill Drive, Bethel, died Saturday at

Glen Hill Convalescent Center, Danbury.

He was the husband of Doris (Stetson) Orzech.

Mr Orzech was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., May 1, 1919, a son of the late Jacob and

Amelia Orzech. He lived his early life in New Milford, after which he lived in

Newtown, moving to Bethel 22 years ago. He was a construction supervisor for a

number of local contractors.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Elaine Novak of Norman, Okla.;

a brother, Henry Orzech of New Milford; a sister, Helen O. Johnson of Marble

Dale; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held December 9 at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street,

New Milford. Interment was in St Francis Cemetery, New Milford.

Phyllis L. Shepherd

Phyllis L. "Pat" (Battles) Shepherd, 72, of South Weymouth, Mass., died

December 3 at South Shore Hospital, South Weymouth.

She was the mother of Richard A. "Shep" Adams-Shepherd of Newtown.

Born in Weymouth, Mrs Shepherd grew up in Abington and Quincy and lived in

Weymouth since 1948. She attended Boston University and Sargent College at

Boston University.

She was employed at a doctor's office in Weymouth for many years and as a

secretary/office manager at C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home in South Weymouth,

Mass.

Mrs Shepherd was a past member of FISH in Weymouth. She was lay reader, church

school superintendent for many years and a former vestry person at The Church

of the Holy Nativity. She received the Rector's Cross in 1997.

In addition to her son, Mrs. Shepherd is survived by her husband, Robert A.

Shepherd; another son, Douglas S. Shepherd of S. Weymouth; a daughter, Sheila

A. Shepherd of El Prado, N.M.; a sister, Priscilla Lindvall of Pembroke,

Mass.; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at the Church of the Holy Nativity, 8 Nevin Road,

South Weymouth, Mass., on December 8. Rev Daniel Harris and Rev Kathleen

Adams-Shepherd, her daughter-in-law, officiated.

Isabelle Hildebrand

Isabelle M. (Smith) Hildebrand, 84, of 843A Heritage Village, widow of George

Hildebrand, died November 30 at Danbury Hospital. She was the aunt of Dolores

Allen of Newtown.

Mrs Hildebrand was born June 11, 1914 in Mamaroneck, N.Y., daughter of the

late James and MaryAnn "Anna" (Hains) Smith. Mrs Hildebrand was a librarian

for the New York Public Library in New York City and retired as school

librarian for the Westchester, N.Y. School Systems.

Mrs Hildebrand was a communicant of St Teresa's Church in Woodbury, was active

in many Heritage Village groups, and was an avid tennis player.

In addition to her niece, she is survived by two nephews, Michael Machat, of

Los Angeles, Cal., and James Smith of Florida.

The funeral was held December 5 from the Southbury Funeral Home of

Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North, Route 6, to St Teresa's Church for a

mass. Burial was in New North Cemetery, Woodbury.
