Newtown's Most Wanted: A Tasty Reward For A Pig On The Lam
Last weekend, Twiggy the tiny Vietnamese pot-bellied pig was enjoying all the
wonderful smells wafting from the nearby kitchen of the Sandy Hook Diner. She
turned to tell her brother about a plan to get her snout on one of their
Ranchero omelets - but Digger was gone!
Neither Twiggy, nor her owner (and diner proprietor) Ellie Lewis can figure
out how Digger, the 25 lb pig, escaped. But the police are on the look out.
Someone called to report a loose pig on Honey Lane - quite a distance from the
pig pen - but it was said to have on a red leash. That might mean it was a
false alert.
"But how many loose pigs could there be in Newtown?" said Ellie. "Everybody's
upset that Digger is gone. The kid-customers love the pigs. Their parents like
it because they can sit and enjoy their breakfast while the kids visit them."
Digger is described as 15 inches long, 25 lbs, black, coarse hair, and smart -
he usually runs in the other direction when you call him because he knows you
want to put him in the pen. He loves dry cat food.
Twiggy has convinced Ellie to offer a breakfast reward for anyone who helps
find her lost pig brother. Anyone with information can call Ellie at the diner
270-2998 or at home 270-9665, or the Newtown police at 270-4255.
