SNAPSHOT George Pert
How long in Newtown: I was born in a white house in Roxbury. I was [a boy]
when I came to Newtown. Andy Sedor came and got me out of Fairfield Hills and
I've stayed with Andy 22 years.
Occupation: I split wood, put stones on the driveway in front of a church - I
take the wheelbarrow up the driveway and work down. I'm not working now 'cause
it's raining. I mow the lawn for Andy. We cut hay in the summer up at
Holcombe's - a small lot and a really big one on top.
What do you do for fun: That is the best question. Not much. I have a color
TV, and a big radio that Bob Campbell gave me - a big, big radio. I put tapes
in the recorder and listen to music. I listen to Elvis Presley, and Jamboree -
I enjoy it. I listen to my church on the radio every Sunday on a New York
station. I listen to my church every day. I go to church with Linda every
Sunday, then I go to the diner with my friend, Mike, in Brookfield. He buys me
a hamburger, french fries, and large Coke [every Sunday].
What do you watch on television: Baseball. The Yankees lost and the Dodgers
won. I watch other good programs I like.
Favorite food: Stew, potatoes, macaroni, peaches, pineapple, pears, turkey,
meatballs and spaghetti.
Pets on the farm: One white dog and one black dog. I like the white dog best;
he likes to play around.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be: I'd live in Brookfield. I have
a brother who lives in Brookfield.
Family: I've got five brothers and three sisters.
Daily routine: I walk to the [General] Store and have coffee and water. I go
to the Hawleyville Deli [for lunch] and have a sandwich and potato chips.
Best friend: Frankie down at the Hawleyville Deli.
Personal philosophy: You got to keep your bones up, so I walk to the store.
