OBITS (Winspur; Graves; Adam; Gradowich; Decker; Carbone; Golden; Sullivan)

Donald D. Winspur

Donald D. Winspur, husband of Lois (Holmes) Winspur, of 39 Orchard Hill Road,

Newtown, died March 28 in Danbury Hospital.

Born in Westport, he was the son of the late Alfred and Ellen (Maguire)

Winspur.

He was the brother of Alice McCarthy and Alfred W. Winspur, Jr, of Newtown. A

resident of Newtown for 41 years, he was a retired union carpenter. During

World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.

In addition to his wife, sister and brother, he is survived by another sister,

Virginia Mackro of Monroe; several nieces and nephews, including Philip

Corning of Monroe; and two adopted grandsons, Jesse and Erik Birden.

He was predeceased by two brothers, David and Matthew Winspur, Sr, and two

sisters, Catherine Lewis and Grace Corning.

Graveside services were held at the Newtown Village Cemetery March 31 with Rev

Steven Gordon officiating.

Arrangements were by Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

William T. Graves

William T. Graves, 63, of 544 Reservoir Road, Southbury, died March 29, at his

home. He was the husband of Maureen C. Johnston-Graves.

He was the stepfather of James Ferullo of Sandy Hook.

Mr Graves was born August 11, 1935, in Greenwich, son of the late William T.

and Ruth (Larsen) Graves, Sr.

Formerly of Stamford and Darien, he moved to Southbury in 1998. He was

self-employed in antiques restoration in both Stamford and Southbury.

Besides his wife, he leaves one son, William T. Graves III of Key Largo, Fla.;

one daughter, Lee Ann Graves of Huntington; one other stepson, Sean Johnston

of Southbury; one stepdaughter, Jennifer Ann Johnston of Boston; one brother,

Richard T. Graves of Colorado; and one grandchild.

A memorial service will be held Friday, April 2, at 5 pm, at the Newtown

United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road, Newtown.

Arrangements are by Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 40 North

Street, Danbury CT 06811; or the Newtown United Methodist Church Memorial

Chairglide Fund, 92 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470.

Antoinette Adam

Antoinette Marie Adam, 62, of Monroe, died at home on March 29, following a

courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband of 16 years,

Thomas Adam. She was the mother of Andrea Kase of Newtown.

Born February 1, 1937 in Stratford, Mrs Adam was the daughter of the late

Frank and Rose Surace. She was a graduate of Stratford High School class of

1955 and Butler Business School. She was a resident of Monroe for the past 33

years and had recently retired from Friedberg Smith and Company. Mrs Adam was

a longtime member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness of Trumbull.

In addition to her daughter, she is survived by another daughter, Donna Adam

of Monroe; a granddaughter, Margaret Kase; two brothers, Joseph Surace and

John Surace of Shelton; two sisters, Tomasina Merando and Frances Rega, of

Bridgeport; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother,

James Surace.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, April 3, at 11 am in the

Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 7048 Main Street, Trumbull.

The Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull,

was in charge of arrangements.

Mary S. Gradowich

Mary S. Gradowich, 68, of 173 Bridle Path Road, Southbury, died March 29, at

her home. She was the widow of Stanley P. Gradowich.

She was the sister of Olga Rant of Sandy Hook.

Mrs Gradowich was born April 12, 1930, in Sandy Hook, daughter of the late

John and Anna Valilik.

Formerly of Newtown, she moved to Southbury in 1997. She retired from the

Harvey Hubble Company of Newtown after working there for more than 35 years.

She was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown.

She leaves one son, John S. Gradowich and his wife, Patti, of Southbury, with

whom she lived; two other sisters, Jennie Singer of Danbury and Dorothy Cher

of Naugatuck; and two grandchildren.

A funeral mass was held March 31 at St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown. Burial

followed in St Rose Cemetery, Newtown.

Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury, was in charge of

arrangements.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Danbury Regional Hospice, 30

West Street, Danbury, CT 06810.

Mary L. Decker

Mary L. Decker, 75, wife of Alton L. Decker of Nunnawauk Meadows, Newtown,

retired bursar of Sacred Heart University in Bridgeport, died March 25, in

Heritage Heights Care Center of Danbury.

She was the mother of Nancy Belanger of Newtown.

Mrs Decker was born in Danbury on September 2, 1923, a daughter of Philip J.

and Molly (Scanlon) Connerty. She was employed at Sacred Heart University for

25 years, retiring in 1989.

She was a resident of Newtown the past two years and was a member of St Rose

Church. Mrs Decker previously lived in Bridgeport and Milford.

In addition to her husband and daughter, she is survived by two sons,

Christopher Decker of Waterbury and Philip Decker of Bakersfield, Calif.; and

four grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on March 27 at St Rose Church in

Newtown. Interment was in St Michael's Cemetery in Stratford.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements were by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

Hilda May Carbone

Hilda May Carbone, 82, of Sandy Hook, died March 26, at St Vincent Hospital in

Bridgeport with her loving family by her side.

She was the wife of 65 years of John Carbone. She was born in Nova Scotia,

Canada, May 10, 1916, the daughter of the late James and Ella (Greene) Hiltz.

Mrs Carbone retired from Bridgeport Thermostat and Remington Rand in

Bridgeport.

She is survived by two daughters, Lillian Drotar of Boyton Beach, Fla. and

Betty Ippolito of Oxford; a sister, Beatrice Smith of New Hampshire; five

grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was

predeceased by a brother, Gordon Hiltz, and a sister, Ruby Warwick.

A memorial service will be held at St Peter's Episcopal Church, Old Tannery

Road, Monroe, at a time to be announced. Private burial was in Riverside

Cemetery in Oxford.

The Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby, is in charge

of the arrangements.

Freda Golden

Freda S. Golden, 81, of Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of Danbury and New Haven,

wife of the late Lawrence A. Golden, died unexpectedly on March 23.

She was a lifetime member of Haddassah.

She was the mother of Joseph Golden of Newtown.

In addition to her son, she is survived by her other children, David Golden of

North Haven, Mimi Landau of Princeton, N.J., and Anida Wartenbe of Ft Collins,

Colo.; two brothers, Edward Schwartz of San Francisco, Calif., and Harvey

Schwartz of New Haven; nine grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was

predeceased by a brother, William Schwartz.

Funeral services were held at the Temple Shalom, Route 7, in New Milford on

March 26. Interment services followed in the United Jewish Center Cemetery,

Miry Brook Road, Danbury.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Danbury Hospital Development

Fund, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810.

The Robert E. Shure Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Julia M. Sullivan

Julia M. (Shelia) Sullivan, 65, of Hawley, Penn., formerly of Queens, N.Y.,

died on March 26, after a long battle with cancer. She was the mother of

Maureen Sovern of Sandy Hook.

Also surviving is her husband, Thomas J. Sullivan; son, Kevin Quinn of Albany,

N.Y.; Kelly Rager of Hanover, Penn.; and four grandchildren, including

Elizabeth and Kerin Sovern of Sandy Hook.

A mass was celebrated at Queen of Peace Church, Hawley, Penn. Interment was in

Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley, Penn.
