Tomorrow At Market Place: Newtown PD Tip-A-Cop Event For SOCT
Members of Newtown Police Department will continue annual fundraising efforts for Special Olympics Connecticut (SOCT) this week.
On Wednesday, August 11, Newtown police officers “will exchange their uniforms for aprons and will serve tables for tips” at Market Place Kitchen & Bar, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. The restaurant is within The Village at Lexington Gardens, 32 Church Hill Road.
Officers will be assisting the staff from 4 until 10 pm. All the tips collected during that time will be donated to SOCT.
The local police department has a steady history of supporting SOCT. This year alone, members of the department, including Chief James Viadero, ran the Newtown leg of the Special Olympics Summer Games Torch Run in June.
Additionally, Officer William Chapman and Newtown High School Athletics Director Matt Memoli in March challenged each other to some ice hockey skills, collecting donations for SOCT. Officers that month also participated in a localized Penguin Plunge, with very brave members of the department running into Lake Zoar from the beach of Eichler’s Cove.
Newtown PD’s 2021 donations portal for SOCT is still available. To support the local department’s efforts, visit give.soct.org/fundraiser/3134105.
