DUI Arrest
Police report that at about 11 pm on August 8, they stopped motorist Sierra Johnson, 22, of Waterbury to investigate near Church Hill Road.
Police said they charged Johnson with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, possession of drug paraphernalia, risk of injury to a child, and violation of a protective order.
In court on August 9, Johnson pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was released on $1,000 bail for a September 12 court appearance.
Traffic Stop
Police report they made a traffic stop to investigate motorist Meghann Freeman, 39, of Sandy Hook, who was driving on Hawleyville Road, near Mt Pleasant Road, at about 10:07 am on August 4.
After investigating, police charged Freeman with driving with a suspended license, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police released Freeman on a written promise to appear in state Superior Court in Danbury on August 17.
Failure To Appear
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Austen Davelaar, 28, of Oxford went to the police station at about 12:13 pm on August 4, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a past incident, police report.
After posting $10,000 bail, police released Davelaar for a August 16 court appearance.
Highway Collision
About 3:36 pm on August 4, motorist Michael Nolfi, 59, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2014 Mazda 3 auto eastward on Interstate 84, just east of Exit 9, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Catherine Coleman, 22, of Colorado, who was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse SUV, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police gave Coleman a written warning for following too closely.
DUI Arrest
State police said they received a report about 11:45 pm on August 4 concerning suspicious activity occurring at the commuter parking lot on Wasserman Way, near Exit 11 of Interstate 84, so they went there to investigate.
State police said they learned that the driver of a Ford Escape SUV had been driving around the parking and yelling.
On encountering that man, state police investigated and then charged Stephen Bart, 33, of Plymouth, with driving under the influence, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. State police also issued Bart a parking violation.
After processing, Bart was released on $1,000 nonsurety bail for an August 22 court appearance.
Two Charged
Police report they received a call about 11:57 pm on August 4, reporting that there was a dispute in progress at 100 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center, so they responded to investigate.
Police then learned that people involved in the incident had left the scene traveling in a white Audi, so they searched for and found that auto, stopping it to investigate. Police said they charged the Audi's driver, David Kreshpan, 24, of Sandy Hook with driving under suspension. Police also issued Kreshpan an infraction on charges of possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Also, police said they learned that there was a pending warrant on Audi passenger William Provey, 25, of Sandy Hook, so they arrested him on charges of second-degree criminal mischief and sixth-degree larceny in connection with a 2016 incident. Provey was released on $1,000 nonsurety bail for an August 22 court appearance.
Three Vehicles
An accident involving three vehicles occurred on westbound Interstate 84 near Exit 10 about 5:37 am on August 3.
The accident involved motorist Eric Talbot, 28, of Rocky Hill, who was driving a 2014 Kia Optima sedan, motorist Sean Stewart, 43, of Canisteo, N.Y., who was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck, and motorist James Hilton, 21, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2007 Lincoln MKZ, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police issued Hilton an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Hyundai Vs Chevrolet
At about 6:41 am on August 3, on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, motorist Michael Jennett, 45, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by a 2013 Hyundai Elantra driven by Cole Jarosewski, 30, of Waterbury, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Jarosewski for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Evading Incident
State police report that a three-vehicle accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, at about 3:43 pm on August 3, but that one of the motorists involved in the incident drove away from the scene before state police arrived to investigate.
Motorist Rebecca Bergin, 40, of Lansdale, Penn., who was driving a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, slowed for traffic conditions, after which the Hyundai was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by motorist Deborah Giuffre, 55, of Naugatuck.
A white work van driven by an unknown person then struck the rear end of Giuffre's vehicle, pushing Guiffre's vehicle into the rear end of the Hyundai, resulting in a second impact to the Hyundai, state police said.
The motorist driving the white work van then fled the scene.
Giuffre received an infraction for following too closely. There were no injuries.
State police ask anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them at Troop A in Southbury at 203-267-2200.
Berkshire Road
A two-vehicle accident occurred on Berkshire Road at its intersection with Great Quarter Road about 10:34 am on August 1.
The accident involved motorist Emily Anderson, 21, of Manchester, who was driving a 1998 Toyota Sienna minivan, and motorist Kenneth Eschweiler, 47, of Orange, who was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, according to police. There were no injuries.
Police said they verbally warned Anderson for failure to drive to the right.
Deer Crash
Police report that at about 12:26 pm on August 1, motorist Denisha Thomas, 27, of West Haven, who was driving a 2015 Kia Optima sedan westward on Berkshire Road, near Great Ring Road, encountered a deer running across the road. The auto and the deer collided. The deer then ran off. Police searched for the deer, but could not locate it.
Thomas was not injured.
Toyota Vs Ford
About 3:42 pm on August 1, on westbound Wasserman Way, about 60 feet east of the entrance ramp for Exit 11 of Interstate 84, a two-vehicle accident occurred, police said. The collision involved motorist Danae Castillo, 25, of Danbury, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris, and motorist Robert Calandro, 47, of Mount Kisco, N.Y., who was driving a 2003 Ford E-350 van. There were no injuries.
Police report they verbally warned Castillo for a motor vehicle violation.
Dodgingtown Accident
About 2:30 pm on July 31, on Dodgingtown Road, near its intersection with Karen Boulevard, trucker Kurt Brink, 56, of Danbury, who was driving a 1999 Sterling, struck the rear end of a 1998 Jeep Cherokee SUV driven by Patricia Stout, 68, of Newtown, police said.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the scene to treat Brink for neck pain, police said. Police said they verbally warned Brink for following too closely.
Botsford Collision
At about 6:01 pm on July 31, motorist Aaron Kearse, 41, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima northward on South Main Street, stopped for red traffic signal at that road's intersection with Button Shop Road, police report.
Northbound motorist Erica Bonamici, 32, of Newtown, who was driving a 2008 Honda Accord, then struck the rear end of the Nissan.
There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Bonamici for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
