Newtown Storm Battle In 84 League Playoffs
The Newtown Storm 11B travel baseball team played some exciting baseball in the Route 84 League playoffs, recently.
The Storm came back from a 6-5 sixth-inning deficit to defeat New Milford 9-6 in the first round. The big Storm hit was a two-run triple by Matt Sadowski in the sixth inning. Sadowski finished 3-for-3 with two triples and 5 runs batted in.
Dillon Larkin continued his hot hitting going 2-for-3 while Jack Heinlein, Ryan Mailloux, and Tim Davis added base hits. Larkin pitched well early, allowing one run and Mailloux pitched two scoreless innings to close out the game.
The Storm defense was led by the outfield play of Jeremy Larkin, Jack Hannan, and Matt Brantl, the latter of whom made two great catches in left field early in the game to keep the Storm close.Â
Against eventual champion Monroe, the Storm trailed 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth but rallied once again, scoring four runs and having the tying run come up inches short at home plate to end the game.
Jeremy Larkin and Ryan Williams each had two hits and Jackson Dooley had a sharp single to lead the Storm batters. In the final game of the season the Storm fell 5-4 despite monstrous home runs by Bobby Ward and Tim Davis.
Davis also had an RBI double while Doug Carriero had two singles.
The Storm played tough and very competitively in every game this season, finishing with a record of 8-9-2, dropping eight games by two runs or less.
