Intersection Accident
At about 9:11 am on August 4, motorist Peter McLachlan, 74, of 3 Schoolhouse Hill Road was driving a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria sedan northward on South Main Street and was approaching that roadâs intersection with Glover Avenue, police said.
At that time, motorist Richard Andelin, 65, of Southington, who was driving a 1994 Hino commercial van, was waiting at a red traffic signal on westbound Glover Avenue, police said.
The traffic signal then charged from red to green for traffic on Glover Avenue and the Hino proceeded straight through the intersection from Glover Avenue toward Sugar Street, police said.
Although the traffic signal for northbound South Main Street was red, the Ford went through the red signal, resulting in the Ford and the Hino colliding, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported McLachlan to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Police report they issued McLachlan an infraction for failure to obey a traffic control signal.
Bicycle Found
On July 28, a bicycle was found in a parking area at 4 West Street, police said. Police are holding the bicycle for safekeeping. The bicycleâs owner may contact police at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, to identify and claim it.
Silver Necklace
Police report that they are seeking the owner of a silver necklace with an attached medallion which was found in June.
The necklace was apparently lost by someone who was participating in the Relay For Life fundraising event held on the grounds near the Newtown Youth Academy at 4 Primrose Street at Fairfield Hills.
The itemâs owner may contact police Officer Scott Ruszczyk at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, to claim it.
Rear-Ender Accident
Police report that a two-vehicle rear-end collision occurred about 4:38 pm on August 1 near 151 Mt Pleasant Road in Hawleyville.
The accident involved motorist Joseph Matthews, 24, of Seymour, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Versa sedan, and motorist Nancy Perez, 36, of Danbury, who was driving a 1997 Honda Accord sedan, police said. Perez was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a possible injury, police said.
Police said they issued Matthews an infraction on charges of following too closely and distracted driving.
Moving Violations
Police report that they spotted motorist Philip Pearl, 24, of Bethel driving fast in a 2007 Nissan Sentra while westward on Wasserman Way at about 6:24 am on August 3, so they stopped him to investigate.
Police said they charged Pearl with traveling fast and with driving with a suspended license. Pearl was released on a written promise to appear in court on August 16, according to police.
Obtuse Road
A two-vehicle accident occurred near 15 Obtuse Road, near the Brookfield town line, at about 12:51 pm on August 3, police report.
Motorist Thomas Foley, 78, of New Fairfield was driving a 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck westward on Obtuse Road, when westbound motorist Mufni Emini, 61, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2008 Honda Accord sedan, struck the rear end of the Toyota, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Emini a written warning for following too closely.
Riverside Road
Police said that at about 11:25 am on August 3, they spotted motorist John Thomas Gill III, 25, of 10 Maple Drive traveling fast on westbound Riverside Road and then passing another vehicle in a no-passing zone, so they stopped Gill to investigate.
Police report they charged Gill with traveling fast, passing in a no-passing zone, and driving with a suspended license. Gill was released on $100 bail for an August 16 court appearance, police said.
Honda Vs Rock
Motorist Vincenzo Colombo, 26, of New Haven was driving a 2007 Honda Accord coupe eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Great Quarter Road, at about 3:30 pm on July 28, when the vehicle struck a large rock on the roadway and then skidded into the westbound lane, police said.
The vehicle came to rest in the eastbound lane, police said. Colombo was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Trespassing Incident
Police said they were dispatched to Alberts Hill Road near Shepaug Dam on a report that four females were entering the woods to go swimming in the Housatonic River at about 4:20 pm on July 30.
FirstLight Hydro Generating Company owns that property near the river, according to police.
Police said they checked the wooded area on foot and found the four females on the FirstLight property.
Police said that they issued Tara Krehel, 19, of 70 Sugar Lane and three 16-year-old girls each infraction tickets on simple trespassing charges. Such violations have fines that are payable by mail or may be appealed in court. Police did not disclose the identities of the three 16-year-old girls.
Volkswagen Off Road
Motorist Juan Millan, 22, of Danbury was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta sedan northward near 143 South Main Street about 3:30 pm on August 1, when the vehicle went off the right road shoulder and then down an embankment, police said.
Millan was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Millan received an infraction on charges of making a restricted turn and driving without a license, police said.

I-84 Crash
Jonathan Vossbrinck, 37, of Waterbury was driving a 2004 Ford F-550 truck, which was hauling a trailer with a lawnmower on it, on westbound Interstate 84, near Rochambeau Bridge, about 8:36 am on August 3, when a strap that was securing the lawn mower broke, state police said.
The lawn mower then fell onto the road and was struck by a westbound 2012 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Sandro Margaroli, 40, of Middlebury, state police said.
There were no injuries. State police said that Vossbrinck failed to properly secure a load.
Off-Ramp
State police report a two-vehicle accident at the end of eastbound Interstate 84âs dual-lane off-ramp at Exit 10 at about 3:06 pm on August 2.
State police said that motorist John Cullen, 45, of Stratford, who was driving a 2012 Ford Escape SUV, was waiting at a red traffic signal at the end of the ramp, when Peter Vandoren, 34, of Coventry, who was driving a commercial 2005 Ford F-650 truck, was making a right turn from the right lane of the ramp and the rear end of the F-650 struck the Escape.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
Toddy Hill Road
Police report that they stopped motorist Luis Berrios, 49, of Bridgeport to investigate near 75 Toddy Hill Road at about 1:53 pm on August 6.
Police said they charged Berrios with speeding and with driving with a suspended license. After processing, police released Berrios on $100 bail for an August 23 court appearance.
Blue Colony MVA
At about 6:06 pm on August 1, motorist Casey Michael, 36, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2005 Hyundai Elantra sedan northward, was attempting to exit the Blue Colony Diner parking lot at 66 Church Hill Road, police said.
The Hyundai at first pulled forward and then stopped, after which northbound motorist Patricia Czancz, 37, of 2 King Phillip Trail, who was driving a 1999 Dodge Durango SUV, struck the rear end of the Hyundai, police said.
There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Dog Incident
Police said that driver Zachary Bunns, 55, of Danbury was driving a Federal Express 2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter delivery van northward on the residential driveway at 38 Walnut Tree Hill Road at about 10:45 am on August 1, when the vanâs passenger side struck and injured a dog owned by the resident there.
After the impact, the truck left the property and the dog ran away, police said. (See separate story in this issue.) Police said they issued Bunns an infraction on a charge of failure to comply with notification requirements following the injury of a dog in a motor vehicle accident.
Flagpole MVA
A two-car accident occurred at the Main Street flagpole intersection about 11:43 am on August 5, police report.
The accident involved motorist Charlotte Kalley, 84, of 92 Haley Lane, who was driving a 2005 Buick LaCrosse sedan, and motorist Dolores Meehan, 78, of 12 Taunton Lake Drive, who was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry sedan, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they warned Kalley for a stop sign violation.
Two Charges
Police report that on the morning of August 7 at Danbury Superior Court, they arrested Richard Markham, 41, of 29 Wills Road on a warrant, charging him with second-degree breach of peace and interfering with police in connection with a past incident.
Markham pleaded not guilty to both charges at his arraignment and is next scheduled to appear in court on August 21.
Markham was being held this week at Robinson Correctional Institution in Enfield where he is serving a sentence on a conviction for another crime.
