Double Court Of Honor Held For Eagle Scouts
Boy Scout Troop 70 honored two new Eagle Scouts at a rare, double Court of Honor on July 22. Patrick G. Binio and A. Jordan Simonds were celebrated by fellow scouts, family, and friends at the Dickinson Park pavilion.
Jordan completed his Eagle Scout project by coordinating the reroofing and refurbishing of a garage on the property of Cullens Youth Association, the troopâs sponsor on Taunton Lake Road. Supplies from Interstate Lumber, Ringâs End Bethel, Metro Roofing, and the expertise of Heritage Roof Renovations, LLC were donated along with hundreds of hours of help from scouts and volunteers.
Patrickâs Eagle project involved improving the appearance of C.H. Booth Library walkways by repainting the handrails and benches with the help of volunteers and supplies donated by Newtown Color Center and Ace Hardware of Bethel.
Scoutmaster Edmund P. Breitling, Sr, presented both scouts their Eagle badges and Kevin Cragin led the new Eagle Scouts and ten attending Eagle Scouts in their pledge.
Less than two percent of scouts become Eagles. Along with their service projects, a scout must earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, 12 of which are Eagle requirements; be active in troop leadership for six months; and participate in a scoutmaster conference and an Eagle Board of Review. This must all be accomplished before the candidateâs 18 birthday.
Patrick is a sophomore majoring in nursing at University of Vermont, Burlington. Jordan is a sophomore attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., majoring in engineering.
