The Pleasance Welcomes The Sun And The Public
Now that the rain has stopped and the sun is shining, gardeners will be out
this weekend in The Pleasance, The Newtown Bee's public garden at 1 Main
Street, planting more than 250 additional perennials at the site.
In the coming weeks and months, the various garden areas at the site should
leaf out and blossom in a full palette of spring and summer colors. From the
variety of grasses by the bocci court to the blooming shrubs and borders by
the fountain and gazebo, the area should offer passers-by many reasons to stop
and enjoy.
In addition to the new plantings, the 19th century water fountain should be
bubbling away, and tables and chairs should take their place in the gazebo
before the weekend is out, according to Bee publisher R. Scudder Smith, who is
overseeing the development of The Pleasance.
Mr Smith again invited the public to take full advantage of the property. "We
have enjoyed creating this space, and we hope everyone will have the time at
some point to stop, relax, and enjoy this space with their friends and
families."
