Vincent C. Tichey

Vincent Carl Tichey, 67, of Winter Haven, Fla., father of Linda Biscoe of

Newtown, died October 23 at his residence in Winter Haven. He was the husband

of Rita C. Tichey of Winter Haven.

Born in Huntington on January 28, 1931, Mr Tichey moved from Danbury to Winter

Haven in 1986.

A carpenter, Mr Tichey was the owner of Vincraft, Inc, in Danbury.

Mr Tichey was a member of St Ann Catholic Church, Haines City, Fla.; park

manager for Swiss Village for five years; first lieutenant of Huntington Fire

Department, Huntington, and Germantown Fire Department in Danbury; constable

for Connecticut State Police on Candlewood Lake Patrol; president, Happy

Timer's Dance Club, Winter Haven, Fla.; a member of Connecticut Power Boat

Association; and an avid fisherman.

Survivors, in addition to his wife and daughter Linda, are another daughter,

Laura Ross of New Milford; one brother, William Tichey of Fairfield; one

sister, Frances Barvenik of Trumbull; six grandchildren; and several nieces

and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held October 30 at St Ann Catholic Church, Haines

City, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the

American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

The Lane-Holt Funeral Home in Haines City, Fla., was in charge of

arrangements.

Nancy Zeller

Nancy (Neal) Zeller of Newtown, a contract administrator for Union Carbide of

Danbury until her retirement in 1996, died October 25 at her home. Mrs Zeller

was the wife of Edward H. Zeller.

She was born in Flint, Mich., a daughter of Richard K. Stull of Fort

Lauderdale, Fla., and the late M. Eileen (Trevethan) Stull. She attended

Virginia Intermont College. A resident of Newtown since 1977, Mrs Zeller was a

former resident of the Lordship section of Stratford. She was a member of the

Newtown Garden and Horticulture Clubs and volunteered at the C.H. Booth

Library.

In addition to her husband and father, she is survived by two sons, Richard F.

Neal of Stratford and Christopher Neal and his wife, Robin, of Monroe; a

daughter, Drew Ann Neal-Mingolello and her husband Jack of Lordship; a sister,

Janet Stull Elder of Pontiac, Mich.; three stepchildren, Susan Smith of Utah

and Carol Volk and David Zeller of New Jersey; and two grandchildren, Leah and

Sean Mingolello of Lordship.

A funeral service was conducted October 28 in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main

Street, Newtown, with the Rev Paul Beavers officiating. Burial was at the

convenience of the family.

Gorden R. Hiltz

Gorden R. Hiltz, 85, of Allyn Road, Goshen and Jensen Beach, Fla., formerly of

Bridgeport, died Thursday morning, at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in

Torrington. He was the husband of Alice (Baker) Hiltz.

Mr Hiltz was born January 3, 1913, in Nova Scotia, Canada, son of the late

James G. and Ella (Greene) Hiltz. At the age of 13 he moved to Bridgeport,

where he lived for 60 years.

After retiring from the Mechanics and Farmers Savings Bank, he moved to Jensen

Beach, Fla., and just recently moved to Goshen. He was a member of Corinthian

Lodge #104 AF & AM in Easton; the Quarry #22 Fellowcraft Association; Ancient

Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Bridgeport; Pyramid Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. in

Milford where he was a member of the Directors Staff and a past director; a

member of the Connecticut Farm and Square Club; the Karyas Shrine Club; and

the Garal Baldi Club.

He was a former president of the Thomas Hooker School PTA in Bridgeport; was

active in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as assistant commissioner of the

Pomperaug Council; was a member of the Lions Club of Jensen Beach; and served

in the National Guard from 1938 to 1941.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, James D. Hiltz of

Goshen, Paul R. Hiltz of Milford, and Gorden R. Hiltz, Jr, of Shelton; four

daughters, Alice Woodward of Goshen, Laura Lee Rydingsword of Cornwall Bridge,

Mary E. Cawthra of Shelton, and Sally A. Morse of Santa Fe, N.M.; two sisters,

Hilda Carbone of Newtown and Beatrice Smith of New Hampshire; 17 grandchildren

and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruby Warwick.

Funeral services were held on October 26 at the Rowe Funeral Home, 283

Torrington Road, Litchfield. Burial was in West Goshen Cemetery, Goshen.

John L. Powers

John L. Powers, 52, former secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Union Local #1150,

died suddenly October 22 in Danbury Hospital. Mr Powers was the husband of

Janis DiMonaco-Powers and resided at 9 Old Castle Drive, Newtown.

He was born in New Haven, June 6, 1946, the son of Helen (Walsh) Powers of

Hamden and the late John Powers. He was raised in New Haven and was a graduate

of the University of New Haven. He served with the rank of sergeant in the US

Army during the Vietnam War. He then was employed by Sikorski Aircraft before

taking his position with the Teamsters Union.

At the present time, he was a healthcare consultant for Health Management

Center, Inc. A resident of Newtown for the past five years, he was a member of

the Rock Ridge Country Club and the Admiral's Cove Country Club, Juniper, Fla.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Jessica

and Megan Powers of Bridgeport; a brother, James F. Powers of Prospect; and a

sister, Mary Ann Genovese of Wallingford.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated October 26 in St Rose of Lima

Church, Newtown. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Springfield, Mass., at

the convenience of the family.

Memorials may be made to the Jack Powers Memorial Junior Golf Fund, c/o Rock

Elizabeth P. Parks

Elizabeth P. Parks, 63, of Norwalk, mother of Brian Parks of Newtown, died

October 25 at home. She was the wife of James W. Parks.

Born in Gardiner, Maine, on October 21, 1935, the daughter of the late Dwight

and Mildred (Albee) Lucas, she had been a Norwalk resident since 1965, and was

vice president of Westfair Heating Service.

Survivors in addition to her husband and son, Brian, include another son,

James W. Parks, Jr, of Bethel; three daughters, Renae Stietzel of Redding,

Debra Barton of Bethel, and Lisa Parks of Norwalk; five brothers, Paul Lucas

of Brunswick, Me., Kenneth Lucas of Readfield, Me., Burleigh Lucas of

Wiscassette, Me., Stewart Lucas of Manchester, Me., and Dwight Lucas, Jr, of

Readfield, Me.; one sister, Peggy Parks of Norwalk; ten granchildren; and many

nieces and nephews. Mrs Parks was predeceased by two brothers, Phillip and

Lawrence Lucas.

Funeral services took place October 29 in the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East

Avenue, Norwalk, with the Rev Kenneth E. White of the First United Methodist

Church, Brewster, N.Y., officiating. Interment was in Fairfield Memorial Park,

Stamford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Whittingham Cancer Center, 24

Stevens Street, Norwalk, Conn. 06856.

Annie L. Beitzel

Annie L. Beitzel, 72, of Milford, wife of the late Donald E. Beitzel, Sr, died

on October 23 in St Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport.

Born in Elgood, W.Va, Mrs Beitzel had been an area resident for more than 50

years.

Survivors include her three children, Rose M. Wilmot of Trumbull, James E.

Beitzel, Sr, of Oxford, and Benjamin E. Beitzel of Milford; four sisters,

Molly Meadows of Elgood, W.Va., Pansy Bowling and Louise Kopeck, both of Vero

Beach, Fla., and Leafy Conrod of Newtown; six grandchildren, Ann and Patricia

Wilmot, JoAnna and Kristina Beitzel, James Beitzel, Jr, and Laura Sweet; and

several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and burial were held in Elgood, W.Va.

Spear, Dennis & D'Arcy Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford, were in

charge of arrangements.

Martha M. Klein

Martha M. Klein, 91, of Fairfield, died October 22 in the Carolton Chronic

Convalescent Hospital, Fairfield.

Born in Bridgeport, Miss Klein was a school teacher in the Fairfield school

system, teaching fourth and fifth grades from 1927 to her retirement in 1967.

She was a graduate of New Haven Normal School and New York University. She

loved her family, her students and her God. She will be sorely missed by all

who knew her.

She was predeceased by her sisters Olga Gast and Anita Klein; and a brother,

John Klein. Survivors include a brother, Daniel Klein of Fairfield; and

several nieces and nephews, Carl and Anita Gast of Chicago, Joan Koty of

Arkansas, Janice Klein of Fairfield, and John Klein of Newtown.

Private graveside services were in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield, with the Rev

Henry Morris officiating.

Imelda Sicard

Mrs Imelda Sicard, 93, of 22 Hunt Street, Nashua, N.H., formerly of Biddeford,

Me., died October 25 at the Courville at Nashua. She was born in Biddeford,

Me., on September 1, 1905, the daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Anne

(Harvey) Valliere.

Mrs Sicard was educated in Biddeford. She was a resident of Biddeford until

1984 when she moved to Nashua.

Mrs Sicard was a dedicated homemaker and mother. She enjoyed spending time

with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a

communicant of St Joseph Church in Nashua.

Mrs Sicard was predeceased by her husband Jovite Sicard, who died in 1963; son

Roger Sicard, who died in 1961; two sisters, Germain Meehan and Laurette Pare;

and her brothers, Alfred and Ralph Valliere.

Survivors include two daughters and sons in law: Lorraine and James Hebert of

Nashua, N.H., and Paulette and Charles Tidd, Jr, of Newtown; one sister, Irene

Corriveau of Bidderford; six grandchildren, Catherine Lewis and her husband,

Robert, Jr.; John Hebert and his wife, Cynthia; Roger Hebert and his wife,

Mary; Paul Hebert and his wife, Andrea; Charles Tidd, III, and Michele Tidd;

eight great-grandchildren: Megan, Anna, Robert, and James Lewis, Caroly,

Andrew, Matthew and Alison Hebert; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The St Laurent Funeral Home, 116 Elm Street, Nashua, is in charge of the

arrangements.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St Joseph Church, Lake Street,

Nashua, on October 28 with the Rev Denis Horan officiating. Burial followed in

St Joseph Cemetery in Bidderford, Me.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Rosemary Randall Atherton

Rosemary (Box) Randall Atherton, 70, of Strafford Street, Laconia, N.H., died

October 16 at her daughter's home in Moultonboro, N.H.

She was born in Torrington on October 9, 1928, the daughter of Howard and

Bertha (Ziegler) Box.

She grew up in the Torrington area and resided in Sandy Hook and Danbury for

many years. She had been a resident of Laconia, N.H., since 1991.

She worked for many years as an electronic assembler at the Amphenol Co in

Danbury.

She was the widow of Charles Randall, who died in 1966, and the late Leo

Atherton. She was also predeceased by two children, Leon A. Donniani and

George H. Randall.

Survivors include nine children, Charles Randall of Hancock, Vt., Marjorie

Randall of Southbury, Kathleen Clearwater of Fernwood, Idaho, Lorraine Randall

of Old Mystic, Patricia Carsilli of Shelton, Connie Hallock of Inverness,

Fla., James Randall of Southbury, Richard Randall of New Fairfield, and

Christina Miles of Moultonboro, N.H.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild;

one brother, Richard Box of Evansville, Ind.; nieces and nephews; and a close

companion, Harold Ness of Laconia.

A funeral service was held at the Mayhew Funeral Home on October 19 with the

Rev Edward J. Charest, pastor of the Moultonboro United Methodist Church,

officiating. Burial was in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia, N.H.

William Cummings, Jr

William P. Cummings, Jr, 66, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Monroe, father of

Brian B. Cummings and William T. Cummings of Newtown, died October 27 in St

Mary's Hospital, Waterbury.

Mr Cummings was born in Bridgeport and was a longtime Monroe resident before

moving to Florida six years ago. Several years ago he was active with his sons

in the Monroe Little League and the YMCA Indian Guides. Mr Cummings was an Air

Force Veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Susan Rimkunas Cummings of Melbourne; two

other sons, Christopher J. Cummings of Stratford and Daniel A. Cummings of

Prospect; four loving daughters-in-law; a brother, Richard Cummings of

Gaithersburg, Md.; two sisters, Marcella Cahill of Stratford and Anna Jobes of

Gilbert, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held October 30 at 9:15 am from the Redgate, Wilmot,

West and Goulding Funeral Home, 406 Main Street, Monroe, and at 10 am in St

Stephen Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private at

the convenience of the family. Calling hours were scheduled for October 29

from 5 to 8 pm.

George M. Horton

George M. Horton of Fairfield and Jupiter, Fla., a retired self-employed

manufacturer, died October 28 in the Connecticut Hospice, Branford.

Born in Wellandport, Ontario, Canada, Mr Horton had been a Fairfield resident

for more than 65 years. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan and

was a former member of the Patterson Club, Fairfield, and the Indian Creek

Golf Club, Jupiter.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Rascan Horton of Fairfield; two daughters,

Betsy H. Potts of Tacoma, Wash., and Lynn H. Hutmaker of Gaithersburg, Md.;

two step-sons, Kenneth Kopsco of Newtown and Gary Kopsco of Fairfield; and

several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The private memorial service

and interment will take place at the convenience of the family.

The Spear Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, is in charge of

arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr Horton may be

made to a favorite charity or to the Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive,

Branford, Conn. 06405.

Dorothy Meyer

Mrs Dorothy Horton Meyer, 89, of the Penick Village, Southern Pines, N.C.,

mother of Melissa Pilchard of Newtown, died October 24.

A memorial service was held October 27 from the Penick Village Chapel.

Mrs Meyer was born on December 6, 1908 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, a daughter of

the late Benjamin and Isabel Loche Horton. She graduated from Syracuse

University with a degree in Library Science and continued her education at

John Hopkins University. Before retiring to Chapel Hill, and later, Southern

Pines, she was the head reference librarian of Montgomery Country, Md. She was

a member of Gamma Phi Sorority and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors in addition to her daughter include a sister, Anita Wadhams of

Southern Pines, N.C., and two grandsons.

Powell Funeral Home & Crematory of Southern Pines was in charge of

arrangements.
