Sheldon Art Gallery Director To Leave After Nearly 16 Years
LINCOLN, NEB. (AP) -- Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery and Sculpture Garden
Director George Neubert has announced he will leave the University of
Nebraska-Lincoln to become director of the San Antonio Museum of Art.
Neubert and the Texas museum board reached a contract agreement that must be
approved this week. Neubert also will be the museum's curator of contemporary
art.
UNL College of Fine and Performing Arts Dean Richard Durst said many people
knew Neubert was thinking about the move.
Neubert, 56, has been at the Sheldon Gallery for nearly 16 years. He is
expected to stay at Sheldon through June and begin his new duties in Texas on
August 1.
UNL officials said a national search will begin immediately for a replacement.
Chancellor James Moeser said the Sheldon job is one of the most prestigious
museum directorships in the country.
