Local Winners At The Bridgewater Fair
BY STEVE BIGHAM
There are many Newtown residents whose unique talents often go unnoticed
simply because there are not enough venues to showcase them.
The Bridgewater Fair takes care of that and several locals came up big at last
weekend's event.
Take for example, Mary Ann Novaco of Sandy Hook. She had a huge showing,
taking home ribbons in at least six events. She finished first for both her
blueberry jam and her blackberry sauce, received top honors for her vegetable
arrangement and her seckel pears, and was best in the show of eggs class. Mrs
Novaco finished third for her blackberry brandy.
Newtown's Kay Epp was awarded first prize for her crib quilt entry, and Carol
Ryan was the winner in the quilt/knitting event. Amy Cox finished second with
her honey.
Lynn Thompson of Newtown finished second in the newest event at the fair --
the hay bale throwing contest.
Newtown resident John Ferris finished second in the 9,000-pound class in the
antique tractor pull, while Norman Nagy finished third in the 10,000-pound
division. Lynn Thompson was fifth in the 400-pound class.
