Glass And Lamp Auction At Julia

BYFIELD, MASS. -- James D. Julia, Inc., of Fairfield, Me., held an important

glass and lamp auction on May 22 at the Olde Byfield Auction Gallery,

following two preview sessions. More than 750 lots from various consigners

were offered for a gross of $588,012.25.

Headlining the event was a Tiffany Studios base with a 9« inch diameter

feature a chrysanthemum ball and leaves supported by four winged dolphins,

selling at $17,250.

A Pairpoint Puffy table lamp with hummingbird and roses and rare solid green

background, having a 15« inch diameter shade, sold at $15,525; and a Pairpoint

Puffy "Lilac" table lamp, on a Pisa Blank base, 23« inches high, the shade

depicting French lilacs blown on a four arm Pairpoint tree trunk base, sold at

$16,100.

A rare miniature peg lamp, estimated at $1,4/1,800, reached $4,887.50. The lot

featured yellow cut velvet diamond pattern with nutmeg burner, 6‹ inches high,

Smith 1-534.

A Tiffany Studios turtleback lamp with original bronze patina with purple blue

and green glass jewels, 15 inches high, was purchased at $9,200; an "Acorn"

lamp by Tiffany Studios, having green acorns on a golden background, with

bronze dore finish, 22« high, realized $12,075; and a Handel "Elephantine

Island," with winged sphinx base in solid bronze with original patina, the

ribbed shade featuring an original pattern of a tropical port with ancient

ruins, 26 inches high, reached $10,925.

An eight inch high, rare Daum French scenic vase depicting trees, with a

somewhat bulbous bottom opening into a wide neck, garnered $4,600; a frosted

shade Sinumbra lamp, with nine inch prisms, went well over the $800/1,200

estimate at $4,198; a double handled Mount Washington "Burmese" vase, 12«

inches high, with all over gold decoration, reached $5,175; and a Webb

"Burmese" stick vase, with raised gold blossoms and leaves, made $3,162.

Prices quoted reflect a required 15 percent buyers premium.
