Ron Rhoads Merges

KIMBERTON, PENN. -- Ron Rhoads' Monumental Auction was conducted at the

Kimberton Fairgrounds on January 24. Preceding the event, over the holidays,

several staff promotions were announced. Auction manager of 20 years, Eileen

Rhoads received her auctioneer's license, and Ron Rhoads agreed to a new

Rhoads and Rhoads merger, naming Eileen president.

More than 500 registered bidders came from all over the US to attend the sale,

which began with lots of stained glass. A Tiffany "Lilly" window with repairs,

realized $28,050; a large jeweled window at $8,525; floral window, $6,600; and

others ranged from $1,000 to $6,000.

Known for their quick flow, the auction proceeded to other decorative items.

The bronze Indian signed Duchoiselle with original Herter Bros. base, $12,925;

large oval gilded mirror, $7,720; carved oak bar $6,600; hall mirror highly

carved attributed to Majerell, $5,500; an extremely large pair of mahogany

wall cabinets, $4,840; carved kass, $5,500; cherub carved bed, $3,960; Horner

Bros. carved drop front desk, $3,300; 12 karat diamond necklace, $6,600.

Music was the next theme with a North Tonawanda pianolin realizing $12,100; a

Seaburg, Kentucky special, $11,500; a three foot French music box $5,500.

Not to be outdone, 40 clocks were next. The nine tube highly carved Hershedes

grandfather was clocked in at $17,600. A Regina musical grandfathers clock

$12,100; the 54 inch German swinging arm clock sold for a resounding $11,200.

There were musical clock paintings bringing from $2,800 to $8,250.

The lighting was incredible with the nouveau style chandelier selling for

$3,900. Others ranged from $1,200 to $5,000. Despite some of the incredibly

high prices, there were still several bargains, including a 60 inch oak raised

panel roll top desks with full interior selling for $1,650.
