Small Fire Extinguished In Inmate's Cell At Garner
State police report a January 17 incident at the high-security Garner
Correctional Institution in which an inmate allegedly started a fire in his
cell.
State police said inmate Robert McMillan, 17, of Stamford ignited his mattress
in Cell D-201.
McMillan allegedly started the fire by using the electrical outlet in the
cell, state police said. The fire destroyed about one-half of the mattress. It
was extinguished by Department of Correction personnel, state police said.
Neither McMillan nor the DOC staffers were injured in the incident.
State police said they charged McMillan with third-degree arson and reckless
burning. McMillan was scheduled for arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.
