Local Man Arrested For Promoting Prostitution

BY ANDREW GOROSKO

Newtown police have charged a local man with one count each of racketeering

and promoting prostitution in the second degree, alleging he ran an escort

service from his Little Brook Lane residence.

Police said Louis "Buddy" Holland, 38, of 38 Little Brook Lane surrendered to

them at the police station at about 5:50 pm June 15 after learning there was a

Danbury Superior Court warrant for his arrest.

Promoting prostitution in the second degree is a Class C felony under the

state penal code. In such a situation, the accused either knowingly advances

or profits from prostitution and/or manages, supervises, controls or owns a

business or enterprise involving prostitution by two or more prostitutes.

Racketeering involves systematically obtaining money through illegal means.

Mr Holland is the proprietor of Bunny's, an escort and massage service that

lists both a local telephone number and a toll-free number. Bunny's has been

in business for several years. The Yellow Pages of SNET's telephone directory

for Danbury lists Bunny's as a service that arranges for: male and female

escorts for all occasions, outcall massage, professional dancers, and lingerie

models.

The advertisement states the service is available 24 hours daily, seven days a

week. It welcomes employment inquiries, according to the ad. The ad states the

service accepts major credit cards and provides "very discreet billing."

After being fingerprinted and photographed, Holland was released on a $10,000

bond for a June 30 appearance in Danbury Superior Court to answer the criminal

charges.

Newtown police report the arrest stems from a six-month investigation by their

special investigations unit into Bunny's operation. Police allege that Bunny's

was involved in the promotion of prostitution.

During December 1997, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Connecticut State

Police, and the Newtown Department of Police Services' special investigations

unit executed search and seizure warrants at the modest Little Brook Lane

home. Little Brook Lane is a long dead-end street extending northward from

Button Shop Road.

Newtown police said numerous business records, cash, and other items related

to Bunny's were seized at the property.

After Holland is arraigned in court, the affidavit with which police applied

for the arrest warrant may become a public document. In such an application,

police explain to a judge why they believe an arrest warrant should be issued.

If a judge signs the application, a warrant is granted and then served against

the accused.

Newtown police said the investigation into Bunny's escort and massage service

is continuing and may result in additional charges.
