Father Castaldo Leaves St Rose
The Rev John J. Castaldo, parochial vicar at St Rose of Lima parish in Newtown
for the past year, has been appointed spiritual director of Trinity Catholic
High School in Stamford.
The appointment, which was announced by the Most Rev Edward M. Egan, bishop of
the Diocese of Bridgeport, took effect on June 11.
Father Castaldo came to St Rose last July from St Edward the Confessor parish
in New Fairfield. Earlier he was assigned to St Theresa parish in Trumbull,
and at St Mark in Stratford. He was ordained to the priesthood at St Augustine
Cathedral in Bridgeport in 1987.
For many years he has provided Pre-Cana counseling, a marital instruction
program required for all engaged couples in the church, throughout the Diocese
of Bridgeport. He also was involved in prison ministry and serves as a
chaplain for Connecticut State Police Troops A in Southbury and G in
Bridgeport.
A sports enthusiast, Father Castaldo also frequently served as a referee or
umpire for baseball, basketball, softball and soccer games.
