No Opponents Step Up To Challenge Mrs Wasserman

It looks as if Julia Wasserman will be running unopposed in her bid to retain

her state congressional seat in the 106th District.

Newtown Democratic Town Committee chairman Earl J. Smith said he was not aware

of any Democrats seeking the party nomination.

Mrs Wasserman received the GOP nomination at a convention Wednesday night in

Bethel.

"Her record speaks volumes," noted Republican Town Committee chair Marie

Sturdevant. "There's no contest with Julia. She's the number one legislator -

at least in our minds."

Mrs Wasserman has been instrumental in helping to ensure that Newtown has a

voice with the state on such things as Fairfield Hills, the Church Hill Road

overpass and conservation issues.

The incumbent state representative was challenged two years ago by Independent

candidate Charles Noe, a virtual unknown from Bethel. She received more than

90 percent of the votes.

Mrs Wasserman of Sandy Hook is seeking her fourth term in office.
