GOP Fills Vacancies
BY STEVE BIGHAM
The Republican Town Committee Monday recommended that Earl Gordon be appointed
to the Board of Education. On Tuesday, the school board approved his hiring
(see related story).
The Brushy Hill Road resident takes over for Susan Hills, the Board of
Education vice chair, who stepped down last month.
At Monday's GOP meeting, Jan Andras was appointed to serve as a member of the
Water Pollution Control Authority. Mrs Andras, a staff member in the first
selectman's office, has served as secretary for the WPCA for the past 12
years. She knows an awful lot already, noted town committee chair Marie
Sturdevant.
"After 12 years, now I can vote," Mrs Andras joked.
As for keeping the minutes. "I will still do it. I just won't get paid," she
said.
The Republicans also appointed Peter W. Mehlman to the Pension Committee.
Appointments to both the Public Building & Site Committee and Library Board of
Trustees were tabled.
The GOP is still searching for a first selectman candidate and will be taking
a closer look at that issue over the next two months.
"It's going to be a toughie," Mrs Sturdevant said.
