Booby Trap Injures 12-Year-Old
Police report a booby trap was set along Schoolhouse Hill Road Monday,
resulting in a 12-year-old boy receiving first- and second-degree burns on his
leg.
A man and his 12-year-old son were driving along Schoolhouse Hill Road about
7:15 pm when they noticed a small brush fire burning on the road shoulder,
police said. The man stopped the car and his son attempted to stamp out the
flames with his foot, but in putting pressure on the ground, the boy pressed a
buried container of lighter fluid, causing the lighter fluid to squirt up his
leg and ignite it. The container of lighter fluid evidently had been buried in
the ground by the person who set the fire, according to police.
Police did not disclose the identity of the boy or his father.
The boy was taken to Danbury Hospital where he was treated for his injuries,
police said.
The incident constitutes second-degree assault and first-degree reckless
endangerment.
Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact them at
270-8888 or 270-4231.
