New NHS Asst. Principal Named
Superintendent of Schools John Reed has announced the appointment of Susan A.
Battersby of Westport as assistant principal of Newtown High School. She will
fill a vacancy in the high school administration created when Marilyn
Capizzano accepted a position as principal of Yorktown High School in
Yorktown, N.Y.
Ms Battersby comes to Newtown from the Darien school system, where she was
chairman of the high school science department and a science specialist for
all grade levels in the Darien system. In those positions, she was responsible
for program review, curriculum assessment, staff development, technology
implementation, and program coordination at all grade levels.
The new assistant principal is a graduate of Duquesne University in
Pittsburgh, where she majored in biology and minored in chemistry. She got her
MS is secondary education at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., and her
sixth year diploma in educational administration at UConn.
