F.H. WHeaton, 85, Glass House Chief
PHILADELPHIA, PENN. -- Frank Hayes Wheaton, Jr, who helped found Wheaton
Village, a glass museum in Millville, N.J., and for three decades headed
Wheaton Industries, died on July 21 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital
in Philadelphia. He was 85 and lived in Millville, N.J.
Mr Wheaton studied at Boston College. In 1935, he joined Wheaton Glass Works,
a firm founded by his father. He was promoted to chief executive in the 1950s
and during his tenure expanded the company, which manufactures both glass for
residential and commercial use. After Mr Wheaton left in 1991, the company was
sold to Alusuisse-Lonza Holding Ltd of Zurich.
Mr Wheaton is survived by his wife, Mary Bainbridge Wheaton; a son and three
daughters; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
