Horse Owner Charged With Cruelty
Police said they served a warrant against a local man June 2 listing one count
of cruelty to animals in connection with his keeping of horses.
Police said they served the warrant against John Spremullo, 47, of 42 Black
Bridge Road in connection with an investigation performed by the Connecticut
Humane Society following a February complaint from a local resident about the
appearance of horses owned by Spremullo.
Allegedly, two horses of four horses which were kept by Spremullo appeared
extremely thin, according to police.
During the society's investigation into the complaint, a pony owned by
Spremullo died, police said.
Following a necropsy of the dead animal and the investigation by the society,
the society filed an application for the arrest warrant which was served
against Spremullo by police.
Newtown police aided in the investigation.
Spremullo was released on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court June
16 to answer the charge.
