Elenore I. Lucas

Elenore I. Lucas, 77, wife of Emil L. Lucas, died June 23 at her home in

Garland, Me, surrounded by her loving family. A former Newtown resident, Mrs

Lucas was born in Trumbull on December 4, 1921.

She was the mother of Wayne V. Lucas of Newtown.

Mrs Lucas' courage, strength and optimistic spirit graced her family and all

who knew her.

In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by two other sons, Robert

J. Lucas of New Milford and John W. Lucas of Brookfield; two daughters and

sons-in-law, Kate and Jeff Stiles of Benton, Tenn. and Linda and Rob Clewley

of Garland, Me; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and an uncle,

George and his wife Dot Baltovich of Pennsylvania.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 26 at St Mary's Catholic Church

in Garland, Me, with the Rev Frank Murray, pastor, presiding. Interment was in

Evergreen Cemetery, Garland, Me.

The Brookings-Smith Funeral Home in Garland was in charge of arrangements.

Gifts in her memory may be sent to Home Health and Hospice of St Joseph's, St

Joseph's Healthcare Park, 900 Broadway, Bangor, ME 04401.

Dolores K. Macknight

The death of Dolores K. Macknight, 76, of Meadowbrook Road, Brookfield,

occurred at her home Thursday, June 24. She was the wife of Joseph A.

Macknight and the mother of Kevin M. Macknight of Newtown.

Born in Elizabeth, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Cecelia

(Dumas) Krasa. She moved later to Union, N.J. where she was educated. Her

marriage to Mr Macknight took place in Union September 13, 1947. They moved

from New Jersey to Danbury in 1954 and to Brookfield in 1956.

She had been employed as a real estate agent for Goodfellow Ashmore Agency in

Danbury and for Marie White Real Estate in Brookfield. She later worked as a

travel agent for the Holton Travel Agency in Danbury and at Waldenbooks, also

in Danbury, retiring in 1985.

She was a member of St Joseph's Church, Brookfield; Council of Catholic Women,

of which she was past president; Confraternity of the Holy Rosary of which she

was also a past president; 4-H leader; Girl Scout leader and den mother for

the Boy Scouts. She was an accomplished flutist and a member of the Danbury

Symphony Orchestra. An avid reader and opera lover, she held season tickets to

the Metropolitan Opera for several years. She was a devoted mother and

grandmother.

Besides her husband and son, she is survived by four other children, Joseph A.

Macknight, Jr, of Southwick, Mass., Kathleen M. Barta of Wallingford, Eileen

E. Yeates of Houston, Tex, and Mary Ann Palmer of Brookfield; a sister, Gloria

Gildersleeve of Tinton Falls, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren;

and one nephew and three nieces. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Frances

Saltinas.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Joseph's Church, Brookfield,

June 28, at 10 am. There are no calling hours.

The Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, was in charge of

arrangements.

Emma Alice Dobson

Emma Alice (Favreau) Dobson, 85, formerly of Main Street, Danbury, died June

27 in Danbury. She was the widow of George A. Dobson and the sister of Lester

Favreau of Newtown.

Mrs Dobson was born in Bridgeport on July 23, 1913, a daughter of the late

John and Anna (Carney) Favreau. She was a machine operator at Columbia

Magnetics, Division of CBS until her retirement in 1977. She was a resident of

Bethel until her move to Danbury in the 1980s.

In addition to her brother, Mrs Dobson is survived by two sons, Charles

Middlebrook of Danbury and George Dobson of New York; three daughters,

Georgianna McKeen and Charlotte Willis, both of Florida, and Viola Gilbert of

Vermont; another brother, Louis Favreau of Georgia; 20 grandchildren; 18

great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 40 North Street,

Danbury, CT 06810 or to the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department, Box 47, Bethel,

CT 06801.

The funeral service was held on June 29 at the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division

Street, Danbury.

John E. Mertens

John E. Mertens, 83, a resident of Venice, Fla. for 20 years, formerly of

Elmont, N.Y., died June 24.

He was the father of Lois Mascia of Newtown.

He was born in Ridgewood, Queens, N.Y., on March 17, 1916, son of the late

John and Estelle (Lanning) Mertens.

He graduated from Grover Cleveland High School, served with the 186th General

Hospital in England during WW II, and was employed for 33 years with Funck &

Edye Steamship Company, as office/personnel manager. After retiring he worked

for the US Postal Service until 1978.

He was a member of the American Legion, DAV-Venice, Fla., VFW and Elks Lodge,

Englewood, and a volunteer at Venice Hospital for several years, logging 3,000

hours.

He was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Helen (Sheibel) Mertens, in 1979,

and his sisters, Estelle McGovern and Lucille Wagner.

In addition to his daughter, he is survived by two other daughters, Gail Mayer

of Lansdale, Penn. and Janice Colquhoun of Dix Hills, N.Y.; a sister, Alice

Eckerdt of Toms River, N.J.; and five grandchildren: Gregory and Lynanne Mayer

of Lansdale, Penn., Rebecca and Peter Mascia of Newtown, and Douglas Colquhoun

of Dix Hills, N.Y.

The Mangano Funeral Home Inc, 1701 Deer Park Avenue, Deer Park, N.Y., was in

charge of arrangements. Services were held Monday with Pastor Kris Baudler

officiating. Cremation followed at Washington Memorial Park, Coram, N.Y.

Joseph Feminella

Joseph V. Feminella, 70, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Judith (King)

Feminella, died June 27 in his home.

He was the father of Daniel K. Feminella of Sandy Hook.

Mr Feminella was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had been a Trumbull resident for

26 years. He was a graduate of Long Island University, receiving a bachelor of

science degree in microbiology. Mr Feminella's career as a food microbiologist

covered the quality and safety of food products, with extensive research in

the use of whey in consumer items, dealing directly with the US Food and Drug

Administration, the dairy industry and the attaining of patent rights for

certain procedures.

Professionally, he was a member of the Whey Products Institute and the

International Food Technologist Association.

In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by a daughter, Robin Olson; a

grandson, Ryan C. Feminella of Sandy Hook; a brother, William Feminella of

Long Island, N.Y.; and several additional relatives.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. There

will be no calling hours.

Arrangements were by the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham

Place, Trumbull.

David A. Mihalko

David A. Mihalko, 32, of Huntington, died on June 25 in an automobile accident

in Westport.

He was the brother of Douglas Mihalko of Newtown.

Born in Bridgeport, he was a resident of Huntington most of his life. He was a

teaching golf pro for Longshore Country Club in Westport. He was a member of

the Professional Golfers Association and was elected Assistant Golf Pro of the

Year in 1996. He was a graduate of St Joseph's High School, Trumbull, and

Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.

Survivors, in addition to his brother, include his mother, Frances J.

(Roraback) Mihalko of Huntington; his father, Peter S. Mihalko and his wife,

Jeanie of Gaithersburg, Md.; his fiance, Christine Fecteau of Southington; a

sister, Deborah Mihalko of Huntington; five aunts, Corrine Harris of

Brookfield, Regina Cimino of Trumbull, Carol Buckholz of Monroe, Judith E.

Mihalko and Margaret J. Johnston, both of Trumbull; an uncle, Harry G.

Roraback, Jr, of Monroe; and several cousins.

Funeral services were held July 1 in St Lawrence Church with a Mass of

Christian Burial. Interment was in St Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. The

Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford, was in charge of

arrangements.

Karen Ann Restagno

Karen Ann Restagno, 45, of 37 Pisgah Road, Oxford, wife of Ross Restagno, died

June 27 at her home.

She was the sister of Gail Miranti of Sandy Hook.

Mrs Restagno was born in Derby on March 13, 1954, a daughter of John and

Aldonia (Stasonis) Fainer. She was a resident of Oxford for the past ten years

and resided in Ansonia prior to that.

Mrs Restagno was a communicant of Assumption Church in Ansonia. She obtained

her master's degree in special education from Southern Connecticut University

and devoted her life to the education of special needs children and adults,

most recently working at the Southbury Training School until her illness.

She loved to garden. Mrs Restagno will be sadly missed by her beloved pets,

Peanut, Foxy, Roxy and Calvin.

Survivors besides her parents, husband and sister include a brother, John

Fainer of Seymour, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held on June 30 from the Hylwa Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home,

167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the

Assumption Church in Ansonia. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Ansonia.
