The next program in the Newtown Authors Reading Series, a collaborative effort between Friends of Newtown Seniors (FONS), CT Humanities (CTH) and C.H. Booth Library, is scheduled for Wednesday, August 16, from 5 to 7 pm.

C.D. Peterson will be the featured guest this month. He will offer a program focused on his book Home Front: A Memoir from WWII. The program will be in the meeting room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.

Home Front is about three things: it’s a coming-of-age story, it portrays the loss of a way of life, and it chronicles how war can affect those far from the battlefield.

In the story, Douglas, a New England farm boy, and his family survive the hardships of WWII but then must fight to save their way of life from developers during the unbridled post WWII boom.

Raised on his family’s dairy farm during WWII, Peterson is an MIT graduate, a former Navy pilot, and a dedicated fly fisherman. In addition to writing Home Front he has written five books, many pieces about fly fishing, a published poem and an award-winning song.

His book has been developed into a screenplay, The Last Ones, which won the Los Angeles Film Awards Best Drama screenplay. Essays based on his screenplay have been published in several newspapers.

Peterson’s program is the seventh in a series of eight featuring local authors. The series was curated by Friends of Newtown Seniors (FONS) and C.H. Booth Library, thanks to a grant from CT Humanities.

An engaging Q&A will follow the reading.

The series will conclude September 20 with John Boccuzzi, Sr reading and discussing his book, One God, One Goal.
