J. Donald Herring, 57, of Southbury, died in the evening of August 4. Born in Bridgeport on October 19, 1958, he was the son of the late Catherine (Conte) and Lynn Herring and was a graduate from Central High School Class of 1977.parentelauro.com.

He and his former wife, Donna Bowden, later resided in Newtown. Mr Herring was a firefighter in Bridgeport for 26 years; during that time he received two medals of merit for his outstanding service. He enjoyed music and playing his guitar. He was an avid animal lover and a devoted sports dad.

His sister, Annette Herring Papastavros, survives him. He was a loving father to his two children, Patrick and Emma Herring. Mr Herring is also survived by four nephews, three nieces, and many cousins.

His family says, "We ask you to remember Don as the man he was, whose contagious smile and charismatic personality could light up a room."

Friends are invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, August 10, from 4 to 8 pm, in the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
