Police Motorcycle Enforcement Initiative
In response to complaints about noisy motorcycles traveling through the area, police conducted a motorcycle enforcement initiative on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3, in Sandy Hook on Glen Road, near its intersection with Walnut Tree Hill Road.
Motorcycle Patrol Officer Steve Ketchum said that the enforcement was targeted at motorcyclists whose vehicles exceed exhaust noise limits, plus other vehicular violations.
Police set up the enforcement project from 10 am to noon on August 2, after which it was halted due to thunderstorms.
Six motorcycles passed through the area, none of which were found to be in violation of noise limits, police said. Incidentally, police issued nine warnings to the drivers of other vehicles for failure to display a front marker plate. One motorist received an infraction for unsafe tires.
Also, on August 3, police conducted the project from 10 am to 12:30 pm. During that period, police stopped three motorcyclists and issued them warnings to them for excessive exhaust noise.
Incidentally, police issued 11 warnings to other motorists who failed to display front marker plates.
Police report that drivers who receive warnings for excessive exhaust noise may be required to have inspections at state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) facilities to ensure compliance with vehicular noise limits. Â
