Occupation: I’m a certified personal trainer and certified clinical exercise specialist, as well as a certified advanced health and fitness specialist. I have my own business, Fitness That Fits. I’m an independent contractor out of Designer Bodies. I have also taught classes through Newtown Parks and Recreation, the PTA at Head O’ Meadow, and I’m a certified swim instructor. For the past 22 years I’ve taught swimming and water aerobics at the Danbury YMCA.

Family: My son, Sean, is almost 11 and entering Reed Intermediate School this fall. Sarah is almost 9, and will be entering fourth grade at Head O’ Meadow. My mom and dad, Tom and Dolores Judge, live in Newtown, too.

Pets: I have two cats. Foxglove is a Cornish Rex, a hairless cat. Charlotte is a rescue kitten we got in November of 2007.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I’ve lived here since 1978 when my parents moved here from Ridgefield, and I graduated from Newtown High School in 1982.

What do you like to do in your free time? I don’t actually have a lot of free time, but I enjoy biking, hiking, and playing outside with my kids. We go jet-skiing and kayaking on Lake Lillinonah, too.

What is the most recent book you have read? I just finished Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and Secrets by Nuruddin Farah. The other book I just finished is Parenting the Gifted Child. It helps shed some light on parenting and giving direction to a gifted child.

Do you have a favorite vacation spot? Vail, Colo. My brother owns a place there and I love to ski — but I don’t like the cold. Right now, the kids and I mostly go to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to visit friends. And we like the Rhode Island beaches for the waves.

What is the best thing about Newtown? Even though the town keeps growing, I like the fact that everyone is down to earth. People here are so friendly and courteous and you know your neighbors. I like that no matter who you talk to, somebody knows somebody. You can always relate to someone in Newtown.

If you could travel to the past or the future, which would you choose? The past. I think before TV and technology people spent more time with their families and more time together. It’s so hard to get people together now. It would be nice to have more time to enjoy with family and friends.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Teach by example. I’m not one for saying one thing and doing another. Look at the positive side of everything.

What is the most important lesson you have learned? Don’t sweat the small stuff. I’m still trying to work on that. Cherish the life you are given.
