Kent Sidewalk Festival Days

KENT — The third annual Kent Sidewalk Festival Days will be presented through August 10 at North Main St. Market Place, 43 North Main Street (in front of Lyme Regis, Ltd).

Vendors will display their goods all day each day. Among those planning to participate are Merle S. Koblenz, of Koblenz & Co., a local antique and estate jewelry dealer, with period jewelry; Inness, a local jewelry designer, with gemstone jewelry; and Lyme Regis, Ltd., with unusual small English antiques as well as whimsical gifts, cards, paper and collages.

There will be other vendors with country antiques, collectibles, vintage kitchen and housewares, old porcelain, paintings, prints, decorative items for the home as well as original handblown glass jewelry.

In addition to the sidewalk sales, there will be music including sets by The Robert Parker Quartet, Shrdlu, and Le Speciale in front of Richard Lindsey Bookseller on Friday, August 8; The Joint Chiefs, Joe Bouchard Acoustic Jam, and Kevin Marquis on Saturday; and then The Joe Sexton Trio, Bruce Wheeler, and The Cornwall Hometowners on Sunday. Admission to all concerts is free, but donations will be accepted for Kent Center School Scholarship Fund and Kent Community Fund.

A square dance will begin at 7:30 on Saturday night, at Area 51 in Kent Town Green. Admission is $5 per person or $10 per family, with live music performed by Country Spice.

Children’s events will take place at Davis IGA each day from 11 am until 2 pm.

Kent Film Festival has planned a few screenings, including an award-winning film from the Long Island Film Festival on Friday at 6 pm; and a series of vintage cartoons including original Underdog, Bugs Bunny and Top Hat cartoons, on Saturday from 1 to 3 pm.

Computer Imagination and New England Astronomy & Telescope will conduct Solar System Walks around town each day of the festival. Josh Reynolds, the owner of Computer Imagination, is an astronomer enthusiast who will teach kids and adults about the planets and solar system. Interested astronomers should meet at Computer Imagination, 2 Green Pastures Lane, at 2 pm each day for tours. Pre-registration is available by sending a note to visual3@ComputerImagination.com.
