Helen (O’Connell) Gilroy, 49, beloved mother and loving sister, died August 5 after a long battle with cancer. Ms Gilroy was born October 4, 1958, a daughter of William J. and Joan Marie (Hoover) O’Connell.

She is survived by one son, Kevin Gilroy of Newtown; four sisters, Deborah O’Connell and Rita M. O’Connell, both of Naugatuck, Kelly Swingle of Beacon Falls, and Tammy McCoy of Japan; one brother, William James O’Connell of Beacon Falls; her former husband, Gary Gilroy of Newtown; and several nieces and nephews.

She was employed at NEJ, Inc, Waterbury, in the accounting department as a bookkeeper. She was a nature lover and photographer, and had a great love for life.

The funeral will be held Friday, August 8, at 8:30 am, from The Buckmiller Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck, to St Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck, for a Mass at 9 am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday evening, August 7, at the funeral home, from 5 to 8 pm.
