‘Ball Game Station’ Cancellation To Be Offered At Hawleyville PO

The most popular song in baseball, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game,” now has its own stamp; to commemorate that event the Hawleyville Post Office has created its own special stamp cancellation.

The “Ball Game Station” cancellation will be offered on August 13 only at the Hawleyville Post Office, the fourth in a continuing series of baseball cancellations designed by Postmaster Mark Favale.

“This year’s cancellation is special in many ways. It honors the 100th anniversary of this great song, but even more importantly gives us the opportunity to bring the playfulness of this song and the game of baseball to fans all across the world,” said Postmaster Favale.

The postal service is also teaming with Little League Baseball and Pitch in for Baseball to help kids all over the world by collecting and giving baseball equipment to young people. “We will be offering our new large flat rate boxes to customers who wish to donate their gently used equipment to this great cause. We will be sending equipment for the entire month of August, as well as enjoying a special baseball day on Wednesday, August 13. We will offer the special cancellation, as well as having a free raffle and other surprises,” said Postmaster Favale.

The postal service offers pictorial cancellations as a community service to commemorate local events celebrated in communities throughout the nation. The “Ball Game Station” cancellation is engraved by Barto Engraving of Brookfield, as have all of Hawleyville’s cancellations.

If you are unable to visit the Hawleyville Post Office on August 13 but would like to obtain a cancellation, you may submit a mail order request. This cancellation is available only on August 13, and requests must be postmarked no later than 30 days following the pictorial cancellation date.

All requests must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope to return the cancellation in, and a stamped envelope or postcard bearing at least the minimum first class postage. Items submitted for cancellation may not include postage issued after the date of the requested cancellation. Such items will be returned unserviced.

Customers wishing to obtain a cancellation should affix stamps to any envelope or postcard of their choice, address the envelope or postcard to themselves or others, insert a card of postcard thickness in envelopes for sturdiness, and tuck in flap. Place the envelope or postcard in a larger envelope and address it to Ball Game Station, 30 Hawleyville Road, Hawleyville CT 06440-9998.

For more information call the post office at 270-6062 or e-mail the postmaster at mark.j.favale@usps.gov.
