‘Antiques Roadshow’

Coming To Connecticut

HARTFORD — Now in its 13th year of discovering treasures, PBS’s Antiques Roadshow will be at the Connecticut Convention Center, 100 Columbus Boulevard, on Saturday, August 23, wrapping up its six-city appraisal event tour.

A Roadshow production crew also will visit locations around Connecticut, capturing stories about antiques and collectibles unique to this area. This is the Roadshow’s first trip back to Hartford since 1998, and the resulting episode from the visit will air on CPTV in 2009.

Anyone interested in having an item appraised should visit the Connecticut Convention Center between 7 am and noon or 1 to 5 pm on Saturday, August 23. There will be more than 70 appraisers and antiques dealers from auction houses across the country, including Bonhams & Butterfields, Christie’s, Doyle New York, Sotheby’s, Skinner, and more, who expect to appraise approximately 10,000 objects brought throughout the day.

On Thursday, August 21, the Roadshow crew will be at Mystic Seaport, 75 Greenmanville Avenue, Mystic, where host Mark L. Walberg will join appraiser Debra Force to discuss maritime paintings.

On Friday, August 22, Mr Walberg and appraiser Sean Delaney will be at the American Clock and Watch Museum, 100 Maple Street in Bristol, to examine antique tall clocks.

Then, while the appraisal event is taking place at the Convention Center, Mr Walberg and appraiser Allan Katz will visit the Connecticut Historical Society, 1 Elizabeth Street, to discuss antique tavern signs native to Hartford.
