Acrylic Painting Demo Planned

The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have James Grabowski painting an acrylic entitled “Beach Front Property” at the next meeting of SCAN on Wednesday, August 13, at 7:30 pm. The demonstration will take place at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited, free of charge.

James Grabowski speaks of his work as “optimistic celebrations of color.” Although known primarily as a painter of expansive, canvases filled with bold color and motion, his more recent work also includes impressionistic landscape paintings that are more quiet, often inspired by the Connecticut countryside around his home in Marlborough.

Mr Grabowski received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Central Connecticut State University. For the last twenty years he has worked full time at his art, and in recent years he has received commissions for his paintings and collages from more than 100 major corporations, among them Pratt & Whitney, General Electric, IBM, Aetna Life and Casualty, and Southern New England Telephone. His work also has been sought by non-profit organizations such as Connecticut Public Television and the New Haven Symphony.

He has won over 200 prizes and first place awards with his flair for the dynamic, and presently serves on the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.
