While the summer sun (or summer rain) is beating down outside, local athletes have been spending a few hours a day refining their basketball skills at the Newtown Middle School with the Parks and Recreation Departmentâs summer basketball camp. Led by Newtown High School athletic director and former girlsâ basketball coach Gregg Simon, the camp features instruction by several high school stars. The camp focuses on the fundamentals of the game of basketball such as dribbling, rebounding, defense and â of course â shooting. The camp will be heading into its final week of the summer (August 11-15) and openings are still available. Call the Parks and Recreation office at 270-4340 to register.
