Mt Pleasant DUI

Police said they saw motorist Edwin Buckwalter, 55, of Oxford driving a Kia Spectra over the road’s center lines several times while traveling eastward on Mt Pleasant Road about 11:15 pm July 31. Police said they stopped Buckwalter and gave him field sobriety tests, which he failed.

Police charged Buckwalter with driving under the influence, driving under suspension, and failure to drive to the right.

After processing Buckwalter’s arrest, police released him from custody on a $100 bond for an August 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Vehicular Violations

While investigating a one-vehicle accident at about 4 pm on August 1, police said they learned that motorist Raul Bones, 42, of New Haven was in violation of various motor vehicle laws.

Police said they charged Bones with making an improper turn, misuse of marker plates, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police released Bones on a $500 bond for an August 15 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main Collision

Motorist Sarah Perez, 30, of New Rochelle, N.Y., who was driving a 2001 Dodge sport-utility vehicle northward on South Main Street at about 9:15 pm July 26, stopped at a red traffic signal at the northern entrance to Sand Hill Plaza, police said.

Northbound motorist Stacey Raino, 17, of 10 Bridle Path Trail, who was driving a 1994 Toyota sport-utility vehicle, struck the Dodge from behind, police said.

Each vehicle carried three passengers, but there were no injuries, police said. Police said they warned Raino for following too closely.

Sandy Hook Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 34 and Pole Bridge Road about 7:12 pm August 1.

Motorist Peter Brechlin, 38, of Guilford, who was driving a 1997 Ford E-250 van, was stopped on eastbound Route 34 and waiting to make a left turn onto Pole Bridge Road, when the Ford was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Ronald Lovy, 65, of Kingston, N.Y., who was driving a 1996 Nissan Altima, police said.

There were no injuries in the collision, police said. Lovy received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

Sandy Hook DUI

In response to a complaint, police went to Glen Road about 9 pm July 31 and spotted motorist Donald J. Kirk, 33, of Norwalk driving a Dodge erratically near the intersection of Glen Road and Church Hill Road, police said.

Police said they stopped Kirk and investigated, charging him with driving under the influence, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to drive to the right. Police held Kirk overnight on a $500 bond for an appearance the next morning in Danbury Superior Court to answer the charges.

I-84 Mishap

State police said motorist Karen Gowan, 44, of Key West, Fla., was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier westward on Interstate 84, about one-half mile east of Exit 9, at about 8:13 am August 3, when the Chevrolet was struck by a piece of metal, which was kicked up by traffic.

The flying piece of metal damaged the Chevrolet’s windshield, state police said.

Interstate Crash

State police said motorist Dakota Norton, 17, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 1993 Chevrolet sedan eastward in the right lane of Interstate 84, about 850 feet east of Exit 11, made an unsafe lane change into the left lane, causing a 1999 Honda sedan driven by Alok Sharma, 34, of New Britain to swerve to the left, go out of control, strike a tree, and roll over, at about 5 pm August 2.

The Honda carried passengers Vandna Sharma, 27, and Shreya Sharma, 10 months old, state police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident to transport the injured to Danbury Hospital for treatment, state police said. State police issued Norton a moving violation.

 

Tires Slashed

Police said a Berkshire Road man reported to them about 1:40 pm August 4 that someone had slashed all four tires of his motor vehicle, while it was parked in his driveway. Police ask anyone with information about that criminal mischief in Sandy Hook to contact them at 426-5841.

 

Honda Damaged

Police learned on August 3 that someone between midnight and 9:30 am on August 3 had damaged a 1998 Honda Civic, which had been parked on Fox Hollow Lane. Police ask anyone with information about the matter to contact them at 426-5841.

Rear-Ender

Police report that motorist Kathleen Peterman, 47, of Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu, was stopped for a red traffic signal in the “left turn” lane of westbound Church Hill Road at its intersection with Queen Street at about 12:15 pm August 1, when the Chevrolet was struck from behind by westbound motorist Christopher Sheehan, 18, of 6 Clear View Drive, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Celica.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident, but both motorists refused medical attention, police said.

Police issued Sheehan an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Intersection Collision

Motorist Phyllis Page, 46, of 1 Surrey Trail, who was driving a 1997 Ford Aerostar, was stopped for a red traffic signal on southbound South Main Street at its intersection with Sugar Street about 8:20 am August 4, police said. A 1999 Toyota Tercel driven by Kathryn DeGeus, 26, of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was stopped behind the Ford, police said. As the vehicles began to move forward, the Toyota struck the rear end of the Ford, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued DeGeus a written warning for following too closely.

Warrant

Police charged motorist Chris Marchetti, 24, of Bethel on August 4 on a warrant listing a count of driving without automotive insurance in connection with a past incident.

Marchetti went to the police station to surrender on the charge. Police released Marchetti on a promise to appear August 19 in Danbury Superior Court.

Silverware

A Farm Meadow Road resident told police August 4 that someone stole silverware from her residence sometime between November 2002 and March 2003. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the theft to contact them at 426-5841.

Mile Hill Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Queen Street and Mile Hill Road about 2 pm August 5. The collision occurred between motorist Jeffrey Nenadal, 30, of New Milford, who was driving a 1964 truck, and David Gray, 43, of Bellows Falls, Vt., who was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Nenadal a written warning for passing in a no-passing zone.

Probation Charge

Police said that William Caputo, 47, of Groton turned himself over to them at the police station on August 6 and was charged on a warrant with violation of probation.

Caputo was one of three men involved in a bank robbery at Fleet Bank on Queen Street in March 2000.

Police said they held Caputo on $25,000 bail for an appearance later on August 6 in Danbury Superior Court. 

Dog Case

Police said Charles F. Morace, 51, of 7 Winding Brook Road turned himself over to them on August 6 after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest on a charge of failure to respond to an infraction and on two counts each of possession a vicious dog and allowing a dog to roam. Police said Morace did not respond to an infraction ticket that he had been issued in connection with a May 2 dog incident involving a neighbor on Winding Brook Road. Police released Morace on a $274 cash bond for an August 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Hanover Road

Police said motorist Nicole Diou, 20, of New Fairfield was driving a 1992 Saturn SL-2 westward on Hanover Road, near The Boulevard Extension, about 8:30 am August 6, when she encountered an eastbound vehicle approaching her.

Diou swerved to avoid that unidentified vehicle, but fishtailed and then went down an embankment, police said. Police said Diou was not injured. Police charged Diou with driving while under suspension. She was released on a $25 bond for an August 21 court appearance.

Off Route 34

Police report that motorist Kathleen Mosher, 41, of Southbury, who was driving a 1993 Buick Regal eastward on Route 34 near Old Mill Road about 4:30 pm August 6, went off the road onto the eastbound road shoulder and struck two traffic signs. Mosher was not injured. Police issued her a misdemeanor summons on charges of making a restricted turn and having insufficient automotive insurance.

Sandy Hook Crash

Motorist Anthony Feola, 39, of 42 Algonquin Trail, who was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup truck eastward on Route 34 about 7 am August 4, stopped for traffic, and was then struck from behind by motorist Robert Ewing, 30, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1999 van, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Ewing a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Dodgingtown Collision

Motorist Kristen Whitlock, 45, of Bethel, who was driving a 1987 Mitsubishi dump truck, was stopped at a stop sign on eastbound Flat Swamp Road at its intersection with Poverty Hollow Road at about 8:20 am August 6, police said. Motorist Jennifer Mulligan, 29, of New Milford, who was driving a 1999 Toyota RAV-4, was stopped behind the Mitsubishi, police said.

As the Mitsubishi was entering the intersection, it stopped and was struck from behind by the Toyota, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Mulligan a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
