Young Adult Workshop—

Exploring Folk Painting Through Newtown’s Architecture

C.H. Booth Library invites young adults ages 12-15 or entering seventh grade or higher (no younger siblings, please) for an afternoon workshop, “Newtown’s Architecture Explored Through Folk Painting.” The workshop will be on Monday, August 11, from 1 to 4 pm.

Participants will study the architecture of some of Newtown’s most prized buildings on Church Hill Road and Main Street with instructor Leslie Troy. After receiving the lines, materials and color palates, participants will put paint to canvas and learn how to depict this historic town in the folk art style.

Students need no prior painting skills. They will learn simple brush strokes, color mixing and stenciling. There is a $5 charge for materials, payable at sign-up.

Mrs Troy has lived in Newtown for eight years with her husband and three children. She was an elementary school teacher for over ten years, and is currently teaching with the Mind On Science summer enrichment program at Milford High School. When she isn’t teaching, she paints professionally in the folk and primitive styles. Her work is exhibited in shows throughout Fairfield County.

Visit the library’s main floor circulation desk to register for this program. For additional information the library can be contacted at 426-4533.
