BEACON FALLS – Why go to the tack store when the tack store can come to you?

And not just another tack store – but the Double L Equine Express.

The Double L, a new mobile tack shop, has been on the road since May traveling to stables and horse events across the state. It is the brainchild of two horsewomen, Laura Schulze and Lucy Twarkins.

Both women have been active with horses for most of their lives. Schulze has been overseeing the training and care of the New Haven Mounted Police Unit and managing a thriving boarding business in Guilford. She has ridden both English and Western, but most recently was active in team penning competitions.

Schulze is also co-owner of Pro-Grass, LLC – a successful landscaping business in Guilford.

Twarkins started her equestrian escapades in hunt seat, but switched to combined training and today is a dressage enthusiast. In the equine industry, Twarkins has ranged from working student positions for several Connecticut dressage trainers and a videographer at “A” rated shows to a delivery truck driver of horse supplies for Agriventures Agway in Danbury.

As working mothers and horsewomen, both Schulze and Twarkins understand that time is at a premium and few horse people have the time to truck out to a tack store for necessary supplies. So now, the tack store trucks out to them.

“Laura and I felt it was time to pool our resources and come up with a solution for all those time-starved horse people like us out there,” said Twarkins. “Another tack store didn’t seem to be the right way to go so I told Laura about my job driving a supply truck for Agway and the next thing you know – The Double L Equine Express was born!”

The Double L Equine Express makes scheduled monthly visits to riding facilities in Connecticut. Stable managers are notified by phone, email, or snail mail what week the truck will be in their area. And any barn that needs the truck at a specific time or day during that week can simply call the 800 number (1-866-553-9799) to schedule an appointment.

The truck is also made available for shows or special events.
