SHOP Announces 'Choose Love' Summer Concert Series
Sandy Hook Organization for Prosperity (SHOP) announces the first of what it hopes will be an annual “Choose Love” Outdoor Summer Concert Series, to be performed in downtown Sandy Hook Village. Performances will begin Saturday, August 16, and continue weekly until September 13.
Performances will be from 1 to 3 pm at Sandy Hook Village Green, at 5 Glen Road. Each event will include a free, outdoor seated musical performance and tents with free arts, crafts and creative movement opportunities for the kids.
“This is an exciting time for evolution and exploration in Sandy Hook Village,” says SHOP Coordinator Melissa Lopata, “and SHOP is excited to be a part of this initiative, bringing on musician and artist supporters willing to donate their time and talent, as well as sponsors who are excited about making a difference in the Sandy Hook community.”
Performances for the inaugural Summer Concert Series will be My Dad’s Truck, performing Americana/Folk, on August 16; Griffin Anthony, with Americana/Soul Pop, Augsut 23; Joe Proc & Off The Hook, with funk/jazz/reggae, August 30; the Beatles tribute band Ticket To Ride on September 6; and The Bruce Coviello Group, performing jazz standards and R&B for the season finalé on September 13.
As a family-friendly event, visitors to the Sandy Hook Summer Concert Series will enjoy the sounds of summer while strolling through the pedestrian-oriented Newtown village.
“We invite one and all to come and celebrate the abundance of love and vitality of Sandy Hook’s unique historic heritage and beautiful natural setting,” Ms Lopata added. In addition to sidewalks for safe walking between shops and restaurants, the village green has a river walk path that overlooks the beautiful Pootatuck River.
“SHOP is hoping that the ‘Choose Love’ concert series will become an annual event, enhancing the new Arts & Culture scene in beautiful Sandy Hook Village,” said Ms Lopata. “What better way to bring happiness and creativity to Sandy Hook then to implement a creative and fun project like a summer concert series that will help transform this tightly knit, loving community into a lively, beautiful, and sustainable place with the arts, and old-fashioned family-fun at its core.”
