Newtown 9s Claim State Crown!

Newtown’s 9-year-old baseball team won the state tournament this past Saturday morning with a 12-2 win over West Norwalk in the championship game. Newtown earned the triumph in a four-inning run-rule effort.

Lucas O’Brien pitched the complete game and allowed only two hits. Newtown began its scoring in the second inning. Will Huegi and Colby Olson were driven in on a double by RH Clark. Newtown broke the game open in the third inning with eight more runs behind singles from Adam Bergeron, Sam Grossano, Will Huegi and another double by Clark. O’Brien, Connor Barrett and Nick Venezia also contributed with base hits for Newtown. On Saturday, August 7, Newtown will begin the Regional Tournament in Dover, NH against Rhode Island.
