RICHARD SERRA SCULPTURE AT MOMA

AVV 8-3 #708262

NEW YORK CITY — The Museum of Modern Art presents the exhibition, “Richard Serra Sculpture: Forty Years,” in The International Council of The Museum of Modern Art Gallery, sixth floor through September 10, in the Contemporary Galleries, second floor, and in The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden through September 24.

Serra (American, b 1939) has long been acclaimed for his work, which emphasizes process, materials, and an engagement with viewer and site. In the early 1960s, he turned to unconventional, industrial materials and began to accentuate the physical properties of his work.

Over the years, Serra has expanded his spatial and temporal approach to sculpture and has focused primarily on large-scale, site-specific works that create a dialogue with a particular architectural, urban, or landscape setting.

This comprehensive exhibition presents works from the artist’s entire 40-year career — from his early experiments with materials such as rubber, neon, and lead to monumental pieces of his late career, including “Intersection II,” 1992, and “Torqued Ellipse IV,” 1999, and includes recent works never before exhibited.

A fully illustrated catalog will accompany the exhibition.

The Museum of Modern Art is at 11 West 53rd Street. For information, www.moma.org or 212-708-9400.
